Dec. 13, 2005 - Narnia Movie - review

I went to see the new Narnia movie this weekend and I absolutely loved it! No, it's not exactly like the book, but it's very close, and so good, both technically and artistically, that I didn't mind the few inconsistencies. Although the creators tried to downplay the Christian allegory, it came through loud and clear to those of us who know Jesus. I thought of Him the whole way through and cried with  thankfulness for His power and grace.

My favorite part was after Aslan conquered the white witch when he says, "It is finished." As those of us who have read the book know, this line isn't in the book. The person who put that line in was asked why he did. He said he didn't know - it just seemed an appropriate line for Aslan to say to let the kids know that everything was completed. How ironic that in trying to avoid emphasizing Lewis' Christian message, he would add Jesus' words on the cross, dying for our sins!

Finally, a movie that encourages kids to be courageous, honest and true, depending on someone bigger than themselves to help them get the job done. I can't help but believe that this movie will be an instrument of God to move unbelievers to look for something better than money, power, sex, and witchcraft to fulfill their lives. Maybe it will even lead them to look for someone like Aslan and then find Jesus!

I will definitely be adding this movie to my collection.

Oct. 23, 2005 - Dreamer

We LOVED this movie! Dreamer is a wonderful story, great for the whole family. Don't believe the professional reviewers unless you are looking for sex, cussing, violence, witchcraft, God-bashing, etc.  You won't find that stuff in this movie.

It's a story about a horse that breaks its leg, a family who is estranged, and how the horse brings them back together. I highly recommend it!
