November 27, 2008 - Happy Thanksgiving!Today is Thanksgiving! I have a lot to be thankful for. Family, friends, pets, good health, a warm home, food, nice clothes, a haircut that I'm OK with... xDThere are so many things I can think of - even the things I don't enjoy as much. Like my family's broken dishwasher. It's my week of dishes, and everything has to be hand-washed (under the couch I go!). But, thanks to Tinuviel's and my other siblings' help, things aren't so bad. We like to imagine how it must have been way back then when nobody had dishwashers or even Palmolive. Also, my wide, stinky feet and my freckles. Don't ask me why God made them how they are; I don't need a reason. I'm just going to accept them and be thankful for them. (The optimist in me: "Hey, at least I have feet at all! And the freckles are brown, so they draw attention to my brown eyes!" Ha-ha-ha...) >.> Also, scorpions. I recently learned that several scientists think something in there venom might be of help to curing cancer! Pretty cool, no? And some scorpions glow in the dark; how awesome is that? xD So even if it'll just be me and my family for Thanksgiving dinner (all of our relatives live far away - I can't ever relate to the "traditional pies Grammy makes every year"), I'm still very happy and content this Thanksgiving day. The hymn Count Your Blessings always comes to mind when I think of Thanksgiving. Really, everyone has at least something to be thankful for. Now that I'm done rambling about that, let me ramble about what's happened today so far! Oh. My. Gosh. My dad dressed up as Gov. William Bradford for the Thanksgiving service at our church -- pilgrim hat, shoes, and all! o.o Normally when this would happen (well, it actually doesn't happen normally, thank goodness), I would probably turn red in the face and shoot for the nearnest hiding place. But I just laughed. Daddy was having such a good laugh, and so were the church members -- who were mostly elderly people so there wasn't much to be embarrassed about reputation-wise. It's good to see him laugh. Oh, yeah! And, speaking of church, a new species has been spotted in the territory of Hope EPC: young families with kids! KIDS! They may not be teens ("just a few more years, young'un..."), but they really bring spirit to the place. And they're so cute. ^^ Anyway, my dad did a sermon about how the pilgrims got past the raging sea and how the Indians helped them, etc. (the usually Thanksgiving story that never really gets old), and after that we said "good-by" and left in the van for home soon after. Daddy had taken his car to church; Bonnie stayed behind and helped him with a few things before they left, too. On returning home, we caught the very end of the Macy's Happy Thanksgiving, people - remember what you an be thankful for! |
