How do you do it all?Jul. 14, 2007

As a single mom homeschooling four energetic sons while running a growing home business, I've learned a few things about balancing family and business.

In fact, the #1 question people ask me is: "How do you do it all?"

Here's the short answer: I don't, and I redefine "it all."

I'll be sharing my best strategies in a special teleseminar starting September 13, so I'd like to hear from you.

how do u do it allJul. 16, 2007
My dh Pastors.I run a hm biz, hm school & all the other hm things. Hmschooling is falling behind becasue i now have a high school, preschooler, middle schooler, infant and toddler. We r relaxed but i don't think the kids r learning enough.

How do u teach multiply grades, w/a toddler tearing up the hse, preschooler who wants to be included (i.e. talking incessantly to answer questions!) in ALL lessons, and tend to the nursing infant?

I am a HS mom of 4, who is also working full time while my husband is working dilegently on his entrepreneural venues. The most difficult thing for me is the lack of energy by the end of the day (a 18 hour work day which includes 8 hours of work, 2 of travel, and 8 being a mom. I am exhausted...how long can you "do it all" ? The financial cuts have to come in the conviences, which makes short cuts such as stocking up on things, using the dryer instead of hanging out clothes, and making my own bread to save $10/week a necessity. How do you balance efficientcy and frugality.

Your request for my challengesJul. 17, 2007
Hi - I'm a stay at home mom and I homeschool three children; this year they are grades K, 3rd, and 5th -- the older two are boys. I really have problems getting motivated for my at-home duties. I am a person who loves to go and explore and experience with my kids, and I get so overwhelmed and underenthused about what I have to do at home that I often accomplish less in a full day than I do in a day where I try to get as much done by noon so we can go somewhere. Compound this lack of motivation by the fact that I am married to a non-encourager -- if I do a project then it seems like it is never good enough and he is not thrilled by my need to go and do.

I would love to hear the tips you have, perhaps there is a nugget in there for me.

Thank you, Jennifer Howell JAHowellMD@msn.com

Doing it "all"Aug. 11, 2007
Is teaching someone else what their "all" should be even feasible? When I read that you redefine "it all" - I was captivated by the concept - but slow in grasping the "how" of it. (Which tells me it's a matter of submitting myself to the Lord for His direction...something that's never easy)

My hardest issue, with 7 children - ranging from 18 to nursing - and a hubby working from home - is how to rightly discern what should have my attention and energy at any one time.

It seems that as soon as I'm doing one thing, I find myself second guessing whether this is really the MOST important thing. Ugh - I end up spending more time dorking around with that, stealing good time from my own self!!! (And how foolish is THAT?!!!)

Thanks Mary Jo, I look forward to gleaning from your wisdom!

"doing it all"Aug. 17, 2007
Hi Mary Jo,

As a homeschooling mom of 7 children, ages 6 to almost 18, I have learned how to eliminate a lot of the extras in my life. My biggest struggle is figuring out how to spend time with each child individually in order to build a strong relationship with him/her.

May God bless and inspire your teaching time on stage for Protege Day. You'll be great!

I look forward to seeing you again in Atlanta next week!

I'm not even sure how to determine my biggest challenges in balancing home and family business!

Right now I'm running a business for someone else and my business and family have been put dead last because of the time involved in this business.

Pretty much everything is out of whack and I don't really know where to start to begin to get a handle on it. Lots of things are just not being dealt with because I just don't have the brain power to deal with them :-(
