Why didn't I read this before I went to CA?
I have been reading Book of Marvels and I went to Yosemite, which is in the 3rd chapter:
I was in Yosemite! And that is where I climbed rocks that had fallen off of Half Dome, dug in Mirror Lake, saw Bridal Veil and Yosemite Falls’ places and did other things. And now, I see what I was walking past. The Indians and whites were fighting against each other and one guy called Major Savage was exploring w/some people and suddenly he found a beautiful waterfall 4 times taller than Niagara! It was a river that fell over the edge of the cliff. Major Savage must have thought it looked like a bridal veil as it broke into lacy spray and mist on its way down, and called it Bridal Veil. Then, as they walked by more beautiful Yosemite sights, they heard thundering, like a cannon. Had the Indians gotten one? NO! It was Yosemite Falls, higher than sixteen Niagaras! First, it fell 1500 feet. Then there was 800 feet of cataracts. Then was the final drop to the canyon floor, 300 feet. 1500+800+300=2600 feet! There was a really good picture of it in the book, even though it didn’t show the cataracts.
I think I like geography better when I've actually been there myself.

I really liked that book!
The falls are truly amazing...such an example of God's work!
Things are a lot easier to learn when you have seen them ;-)
