• Jul. 4, 2009 - Independence Day 2009 - Saturday
We're leaving sometime today - probably this morning - to head down to Ohio for fireworks and for Jesse's birthday. Gotta stop at the library to get a book on CD to listen to while we're driving. Oops. I'll bet they're closed. Shoot. Should have gone yesterday.
I was kind of hoping to be driving down in my new Outback, which Jesse says we actually *do* have enough money for. Not enough for a CR-V or Forester, though, and that's what he'd rather I have, I know. I was thinking that an eight-hour round trip could be made quite bearable in a new car. Oh well. T'wasn't meant to be.
JJ is having a hard time adjusting to high school. The work load is certainly much heavier. And it's hard for him to fathom getting an F for not doing his work when he's supposed to. But I've already given him a couple of big, fat F's and he's gotten some C's and D's on assignments and even on a test in his first week. I think it will take a little getting used to, but he is an A/B student, so I do expect things to turn around quickly. I can already see him applying himself more and also more responsibly.
I hung up a flag banner on the front porch and propped up the delphiniums which had gotten beaten down by the rain. It looks festive out front ... I'd like to paint the front door, too. My Dad's trying to get hold of me to come back for another visit. The last one was nice, but oh, I am so tired out from company. I'd like a solid month of no visitors, no swim parties, no guests - just to recuperate. Don't know that that'll happen, and I'm glad people want to see us! I need to learn to do a quick-recharge so I can enjoy the frequent visits of summer!
I failed to mention that Saxton has come along very nicely in his training and lungeing. He's begun to show a very nice willingness to work for me. The past three days, though, it's been too cold or whatever and I haven't been out there - also with being gone tomorrow I won't get back to it until Monday at the earliest. I'm looking forward to it, as we are deepening a good working relationship through our work. I'm ready mentally to get back on him, but my back disagrees. It's been two and a half weeks. I'm still too stiff.
I'm wishing for my raspberry pie! That's a family tradition here and has been for about ten years. Raspberry pie on the fourth, along with a KFC picnic. We'll be celebrating differently ... on a long car ride! LOL! Here's to a happy Independence Day, and hoping America loves her roots. |

What Type of Homeschooler Are You?
Swiss Family Robinson - If you can grow it, pick it, preserve it, or butcher it, you own it. Otherwise, you do without. You'd prefer to live off-grid from the power company, since you're nearly self-sufficient already. You enjoy unit studies for the way they utilize all facets of life and truly incorporate life and education as a whole, not as separate entities. Take this quiz!
