Jamie Tooley
My name is Jamie Tooley and I am 16. I was born in Logan, WV on February 11, 1993. I moved to Ohio when I was eight then my dad's work brought us to Alabama. I've lived in Alabama for a year and a half now. I began being homeschooled in the middle of my Freshmen year. I am now a Junior and have learned more in the three years I have been homeschooled than I have my entire school career. I enjoy playing softball and being around my family. I haven't played softball in a while due to lack of team. I was asked by Deb Spradlin earlier this year to be a Teen Ambassador. As soon as I found out exactly what a Teen Ambassador was I agreed to be one. I want to be a Teen Ambassador because it gives me a chance to meet new people which is hard to do at first because when you are homeschooled you aren't around the same teens all the time. Being a Teen Ambassador has made my friend circle grow and is still growing.
Chandler Taylor
My name is Chandler Taylor and I am a thirteen year old homeschooler. I love to fish and hunt and hike, mostly anything that can be done outdoors. I also love animals. I love studying animals, but I also enjoy caring for them. I have a cat named GladWare, a Shihtzu and a Columbian Red-Tailed Boa. I am also a member of the Boy Scouts of America, troop 159 of Locust Fork, Alabama. I love being homeschooled. I mostly love that I get to study things I love and I also like that I can move ahead when I am ready to, instead of keeping the same pace all year. I love music, Braves baseball, Alabama football, camping and swimming. I am glad to be an Ambassador for homeschooling because I really think that homeschooling is a wonderful thing. I am proud to tell people that I am homeschooled and I love answering their questions!
Dalton Spradlin
My name is Dalton Spradlin and I am 16. I've been homeschooling since my sixth grade year. I am a now a Senior. and I will soon begin dual enrollment classes at Bevill State Community College. Something that I love about homeschooling is that I have been able to school at my own pace instead of having to wait on curriculum. I love the educational freedom of homeschooling. For example, maybe one day I don't want to work out of a history book, so instead I may go to an exhibit at the museum. Another thing I love about homeschooling is that whenever I'm hanging out with friends, there really aren't any cliques, and anyone who wants to hang out is welcome to. I love my mom who made it possible for me to homeschool in the first place. Thanks Mom! I am a 1st Kyu Brown Belt in U.S. Yoshukai karate. My Sensei (teacher) is also the Pastor of my church, Victory Christian Fellowship. I love running, swimming, fighting in karate tournaments, playing football with friends, and playing guitar. P.S. ROLL TIDE!!!
Zac Carden
Hi, my name is Zac Carden. I am 15 and started homeschooling my 7th grade year. We started with a cover school in Tuscaloosa and were so happy to find Everest Academy my second year of homeschooling. This is my 4th year and I love being homeschooled. I do my traditional curriculum with Citizens High School, but with homeschooling I have lots of time to pursue interests. I have been taking photography classes at Shelton State Community College for over a year, and I hope to be a photographer. I love snow skiing and table tennis. I took piano for several years and will be starting trumpet classes at the University of Alabama next week. I will also be starting Chinese classes at UA. I volunteer with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Habitat For Humanity, and the Humane Society of West Alabama. I play a lot of video games and my favorite t.v. show is "Lost." I belong to Teen Scene in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. I am looking forward to hanging out with old friends and meeting new people.
Alex McAnnally
Hey, I'm Alex McAnnally, and I'm 16 almost 17. I've homeschooled for about 5-6 years, since the the 6th grade. I'm a Junior in High School and plan to be a Nurse (RN), first attending at Beville State Community College, and then transferring to UAB once I find out what I plan to specialize in. What do I love about homeschooling? Well to start, I wouldn't be nearly as prepared for college if I were still in a public school system, and I get to go at my own pace. I really don't stress over my schoolwork. It gets done when it gets done, and I'm usually up to speed on everything. I play piano and have played for about a year. I'm really into music, so much so my Mom thinks I'm "cool kid" just because I know about "The Beatles". I'm also the "Band Man" according to one of my friends. I also take Yoshukai Karate, an Okinawan form of karate. Anything computer/video game related is sure to start up conversation with me.
