Live to Drive, Drive to Live
Defensive Driving for the Younger Driver
Defensive driving is driving to arrive safely no matter what other drivers do. This course addresses the younger driver mind set and attempts to reach these individuals on a level they can connect with. Live to Drive, Drive to Live covers the essentials such as attitude, speed limits & speeding, road rage, DUI, railroad crossings, signs, lights and other markings, control of the vehicle and emergencies. Keeping the younger drive in mind, we also address peer pressure, distractions, inexperience and other related topics. There will be a certificate awarded at the end of this program.
Operation Lifesaver
Driver Railway Safety
Operation Lifesaver is an education program established to end collisions, deaths and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights-of-way. You will learn how to make safe decisions around tracks and trains. You’ll learn to identify the signs and signals that mark crossings and their meaning for you as a motorist or pedestrian.
For more information, please contact Lisa McAnnally. Deadline for sign up, payment, and cancellation is Oct. 28.
The DUI Experience
Date TBA

Let's prevent this from ever happening to our children!
Trussville Playstation has recently started a program to teach new drivers about the horrible repercussions of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Participants will attend an orientation, be given a workbook, and then go through a field sobriety test. They will then be asked to wear a pair of goggles that simulates the effects of consuming four beers or one joint of marijuana and be allowed to drive a go-kart on an environmentally controlled course and with electronic controls. This is done in a completely safe environment. The lessons learned cannot be equaled anywhere without the deadly consequences of experiencing this for real.
Groups of eight drivers at a time will go to the kart area. The rest of the drivers can choose to either play laser tag or skate until it is their turn.
Younger siblings are invited to come and skate during the
DUI Experience for a fee of $3.

Tips
- Many auto insurance companies give discounts for good grades--usually As and Bs. Check with your company to see if you qualify.
- Some insurance companies also give discounts for taking either their driver training program--or other driver education programs.
- If you have a choice, put the new teen driver as the primary driver or family driver on the oldest and least costly vehicle. This will save you on the rates.
- Before buying a new or used car, check with insurance company to see what the rate will be for the teen. Sports cars and other expensive cars may have higher rates. So know what you're getting into before you buy. At the link in the box below, you can get rates from a number of companies to compare.
- Also check the crash safety rating and average repair cost for any car you might buy--that will impact the insurance rating, too.
- If getting new insurance, check the rates at a number of companies--you can click on the ads below and search many companies for the best rates and services.
- Keep a disposable camera in your car in case you're in an accident to record the damage to all cars and the actual placement of the cars--But be sure and get out of the traffic when you (or someone else) is taking the picture. You don't want to be hit while documenting the accident.
- If you're involved in a minor crash, you might want to have it fixed without reporting it to the company. For a teenager, having an accident--even a minor one--may cause your rates to increase (maybe even more than the cost of repairing the minor damage.)
