Graduation & Awards Ceremony 2008

Everest Academy
Graduation & Awards Ceremony
May 31, 2008

The theme of the ceremony was
"Thinking, Learning, and Living Outside of the Box."

One of the things we discussed was the following joke:

How does a homeschooler change a lightbulb?

First, mom checks out three books on electricity out of the library, then the kids make models of light bulbs, read a biography of Thomas Edison and do a skit based on his life.

Next, everyone studies the history of lighting methods and goes on a field trip to the Alabama Power Water Course in Clanton.

Next, everyone takes a trip to the store where they compare types of light bulbs, wattage, and pricing.

Before you check out, you must figure the sales tax on $1.99 and how much change will you receive if you pay with a $5 bill.

On the way home, a discussion develops over the history of money, the history of sales tax and also Abraham Lincoln, as his picture is on the $5 bill.

Finally, after building a homemade ladder out of branches dragged from the woods, the light bulb is installed.

And there is light.

About Everest Academy

Everest Academy believes that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off cover school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.
