Park Days & Other Ongoing Play Dates

Here are just a few park days and other regularly scheduled activities that I know about.  If you know of any others, please share them with us!  Park Days are such a wonderful time not only for the little ones to play together, but the support that is shared among the parents is invaluable. Please note Adamsville Park Day hosted at Spring Street Park in Adamsville is the official park day of Everest Academy. 

 

Official Everest Academy Park Day!!!

Adamsville Spring Street Park – This park day is on 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month at noon until whenever.  Come on out and spend the day playing and socializing.  All age children are welcome.  This is an awesome park with plenty to do for everyone.  A special invite goes out to teens. 

In addition to park day, we always invite you to bring your Free Cycle items.  These items might include but are not limited to books, curriculum, toys, clothes, etc...  Bring anything you think might benefit another family.

Birmingham - Home Schooling Bowling League at Brunswich/Riverview Lanes located on Hwy 280 next to Target (just south of The Summit). The cost is $6.50  per game. There is also a one time sanction fee charge of $10.00.  The games start at 1:00 every Tuesday. There are two divisions: Div. I for under age 12, Div. II for over age 12.  January 9th starts the new semester. Sign up for teams. Have fun. The league will start January 16th.  

 

Enterprise - Johnny Henderson Park Day in Enterprise - Second Tuesday of the month at 2:00 p.m. until whenever.  For more information, please contact Madeline at meverritt@rock.co


 

Florence - Shoals Homeschool Activity Group, sponsored by Everest Academy, is underway. We are going to start Fun Fridays which will be held at the River Heritage Park in Florence (near the Marriott / Tower) around noon.  There is a park and a free splash pad. It is a great place for picnics, if you would like to pack a lunch.  For more information, please contact Jae White.




Fultondale - Funtime Skate Center Homeschool Day September - May is the first Thursday of every month from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Cost is $3 per person.  

 

 

  

Gardendale - This park day will be every Thursday at noon at Moncrief Park just a block off Hway 31 on the north side of Gardendale. 


Guntersville Park Day at the Guntersville Civitan Park playground (across from the middle school and Episcopal Church) at 11:00 a.m. on the third Friday of the month.  There is a bike/walking trail, tennis courts, volley ball area, skate ramp (you have to have protective gear) and it's next to the lake.   There should be something for everyone.
 

How tall am I now?

 

Hueytown - Skateland Skating Rink in Hueytown will be open for homeschoolers on the 4rd Thursday each month from 3:00 until 5:00 beginning on February 22.  The cost is $3.00 per skater (includes skate rental)  Please help spread the word. If there is insufficient response, the skating rink will discontinue this opportunity.

 


 

Jasper - Swimming at Jasper Natatorium every Wednesday 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Cost is $2 per person if swimming and free if not swimming.  There is an eatery area where you can bring in your own food.  There is also an outdoor park to play in.  The pool is an indoor heated pool during winter and outdoor/indoor pool in summer. Make sure to tell them you are with Everest (or "the homeschoolers") for the discounted rate.

 

 

Leeds Park Days - 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, noon - 3:00 p.m. (all ages) sponsored by OATHE.

 

 


Loxley Municipal Park on the 2nd Thursday of every month through May from 1pm - 4pm.

Moody Park Day will be on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month. We will meet from around 1:00 until whenever. Please join us! They have recently redone the park and it looks great! There is an awesome playground with play equipment for big and little kids. There are even swings for handicapped children. There is a basketball court, tennis courts, batting cages, a walking track, and a nice big pavilion. I don't have an alternative meeting place set up yet in case of bad weather, so if the weather looks chancy, call me and see if we are still meeting. Mobile - Medal of Honor Park (aka Cottage Hill Park) on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays 1pm - 4 pm.  The park offers playing fields/courts, a playground, picnic areas, restrooms, and a walking path.

Ohatchee Park Day - This park day is on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Fridays of the month from 1:00 - 3:00 at Janney Furnace Park between Anniston and Gadsden.  There is a play ground for the children, walking trails, and lots and lots of running space.  Hope to see you there!!!  Please contact Roxanne Harrison for more information at 892-0539 or annwayhome@yahoo.com .

 

 

Pell City Park - Lakeside Landing on Fridays at 1:00.  This park day has been put on hold for the summer but will resume in the fall.  

 


Pinson - Bethany Learning Academy 3290 Casey's Crossing in Pinson will feature a social activity the second Friday of each month from 10:00 - 1:00 for children ages 4 - 7.  For more information, please contact Billie at bglazier@uab.edu or 680-4332.



Pleasant Grove Park Day - 501 Park Rd
Pleasant Grove, AL 35127-1625. 
Every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  This is a very nice & clean park with many toys for the kiddos, a stream (so be sure to bring a towel & an extra set of clothes), and a tennis court. There’s plenty of shade, picnic tables, pavilions & grills.

Shelby County - This park day is the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month at Joe Tucker Park in Helena.  We meet at the new playground behind the lake to the left.  For more information, please contact Brandy Dahlen at 422-1748 or bldahlen@aol.com



Shelby County - Boys Club is a small group that meets two Thursdays a month for boys ages 5-11, although siblings are welcome anytime.

Trussville - Lightning Strikes Bowling offers bowling every Thursday and Friday from 11:00 - 2:00 for homeschoolers at $2.75  (+ tax) for the first game with free shoe rental. Additional games will be $1.50.  You do have to be sure to tell them you are a homeschooler to get the homeschool bowling rate--no refunds after the fact.  The OATHE group meets there every second fourth Thursday at 2:00 p.m.  Open to all homeschoolers.  For more information, please contact Bri Moore at self-educated@earthlink.net

Trussville - Playstation Homeschooling Days on the second Friday of each month from 1:00 –3:00 p.m.  Cost will be $3.00/skater + an additional $2.00 for speed skates or $3.00 for inline skates. This offer does not apply to summer months.
