What is wrong with these women??? Aside from Elizabeth, who stuck up for homeschoolers - what are the rest of them thinking? Where have they been for the last 20 years??? Helllooo!?? That really chaps my hide!

Thanks for posting this. I'll be posting a link to your blog. Hope that's okay!

And yet no one mentioned the "demented" public or private school children and teens. I can think of many more public and private schooled children who are "demented." Let's just say Columbine and leave it at that.

I can't stand listening to those ladies! Joy Behar is such a liberal, I don't put it past her to say those things. She really doesn't have a clue about homeschooling. I did send an email to their show, and told them how upsetting it was to have someone who is so concerned about discrimination, blatantly discriminate.

You'll have to keep us all posted about HSLDA. I would love to see them jump on the View and come down on them for their lack of respect!

Does Joy Behar have a clue? Or does she just spout off on every topic she knows nothing about? Really. What homeschoolers does she know personally?

Let's put the blame where it should be, shall we? With an either under informed or misinformed woman. I'm probably the most raging atheist liberal you'd like (or probably not like) to meet. I am also a homeschooler. Her opinion of homeschooling can hardly be attributed to the fact that she is "such a liberal". Let's commit to refraining from "discrimination" (more like stereotyping or generalizing) on both sides of the aisle.

Joy Behar just has to have something to say. Listen to her on any topic. She doesn't care if what she's saying is intelligent or based in fact, she just needs to say SOMETHING.

I don't think very many people would give anything she said serious credence.

I consider the 'demented' comment a compliment coming from The View.

As a woman, I am embarrassed of The View. I can see why many men would have ill sterotypes of us.

I imagine the sponsors of this show don't actually watch it. Maybe letters ought to be written to them.

This woman is a complete idiot! What is she talking about...they are scared of other children? Please...I think she is just jealous that there are women out there that actually have some morals and want to protect their children from certain issues in the schools like drugs, sex, evolution.....etc.

Thanks for sharing this stuff because I don't watch much tv so I wouldn't know that her horrible stereotype had been beamed into so many homes recently. Now I will know who to thank when the discrimination picks up the pace and the public seems to think they know something about homeschooling. However, if God be for us, who can stand against us?

All of Joy's comments are so ignorant, they hardly deserve all the attention she's getting. Unfortunately, she does get attention and the 'non-home schooled' world is listening. So sad.

This woman is demented, No one takes anything she says seriously. She has been squirrel food for a very long time.
The thing that was really annoying is how everyone was talking over Elizabeth when she waas trying to explain how homeschooled children do interact with other children. Let's face it they aren't interested in facts. only there own opinions.

Nov. 19, 2008 - Homeschoolers "demented"

I had to watch this 2 or 3 times to make any sense out of what they were saying at all! I, also, am a liberal homeschooler-so don't think that has anything to do with this comment (her being a "liberal"). She was 'trying to be funny", and in so doing, offended a lot of people and said something pretty stupid (and something she obviously knows nothing about!). That is what I took away from this discussion; as well as the fact that the President-elect still does not know what is the best way to educate his children for the next 4 years.

What a waste of electricity. Do these women ever have anything intelligent to present and say? The blonde is the ONLY one who makes any sense. She needs to do her own show and dump the other frumps. This show is moronic. Why is it even aired?! President Bush IS still our President, and should be treated and respected as such. I want to thank ALL YOU PARENTS for homeschooling your children!!!!!!!! You give our country, and the next generation hope by doing so! You ARE teaching your children well, so well, they won't grow up to sit around a table and complain about others! These women get paid big bucks...to say nothing! This is their contribution to society? Stop watching this sort of dibble. Keep that in mind also at the movies you go out and see...you contribute to the mindless left. HOMESCHOOL KIDS ARE RESPECTABLE, CAN HOLD A CONVERSATION WITH AN ADULT, KNOW WHAT IT IS TO HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES, WORK, AND WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE AND TOWARD RAISING THEIR OWN FAMILY ONE DAY...ALL BECAUSE YOU PARENTS HAVE TAKEN YOUR TIME TO RAISE YOUR CHILDREN!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!! & GOD SPEED! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!>>>AND AGAIN THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR RAISING WONDERFUL CHILDREN IN THIS DARK WORLD!!!!!!!!

hugs

Obviously, it's the fat, bad-haired, bad-bra-fitting woman who's demented, especially with the way her mouth hangs agape. It's time for Barbwa to upgrade Joy's seat to someone with half a brain.

Nov. 20, 2008 - Homeschoolers "Demented" My Response to Joy Behr

Posted by Anonymous
I was stunned when I heard this comment by media personality Joy Behr! She writes children’s books then judges them as demented? Obviously Joy either doesn’t know the meaning of the word “Demented” or she is seriously lacking in proper use of grammar! First of all “our children” whether they are public schooled, private schooled or home schooled are NOT demented, either cognitively or otherwise suffering from any form of dementia. Furthermore, if you bring all the children into the White House to be educated as Joy suggested, then you just have another public school not a home school! If “our children” aren’t learning in school it is first and foremost the undereducated teachers that are at fault. Yes, I do agree that there are many students who do not possess the ability to manage their work studies, stay on task and otherwise “care” about their learning. However, if you have a “boring” or “cruel” teacher then why should any student put out the effort to learn, what’s in it for them? Furthermore, in my entire life as a student and a parent I have only encountered 2 teachers who were worth accommodating. One was my own 3rd grade teacher (back in the 60’s) and another was a dedicated teacher who didn’t take any crap from the bureaucrats or the students and was quite successful in reforming many “troubled” children in his charge. So it takes caring and motivation to “Teach” not “Control” our children and if they are motivated to engage their students to learn whether they are being home schooled or public/private schooled then we will have students who use their brain instead of their fists, weapons or drugs.
It was grossly irresponsible of Joy to make the kind of comments she did and it is grossly irresponsible for the network to condone such comments. Frankly if they can’t lay down some common sense guidelines on what they should and should not say against a group of individuals, especially our children then perhaps they should be shut down. No, I’m not for censorship, in fact I am very well known for speaking my mind and caring very little about what others think about it. But I don’t go around criticizing how other people parent their children and how they choose to educate them and I certainly don’t go around calling children crazy just because they don’t go to the type of school I may prefer. If this country is going to continue to fail our children I see no reason why the entire public and private school system shouldn’t come to a complete halt! One person commented on how public schooled children were demented. I find this comment just as offensive and irresponsible as Joy’s! If anyone is demented in all of this it is our government who condones the abuse and failure to educate our children and it is the teachers who don’t give a hoot and only push the kids to get on drugs to shut them up. This is a HUGE crisis in this country! If you can’t spank the kids in public schools then you must drug them to shut them up…lets label them all “Demented, ADHD, and Mentally Disabled” so we can justify drugging them all up and keep them all quite. First of all, every one of the school shootings were committed by children who had this happen to them. They all were being shut up with drugs for ADHD or some other such nonsense mental disorder. Furthermore, if everyone would put their thinking caps on they would realize that ALL of these children are very smart kids! They are misjudged because of their outspoken nature, their ability to think outside the box, their creativity and their ability to make things happen. Yes, I pulled my youngest son out of public school because they were doing this to him and physically and emotionally abusing him to boot! How dare anyone abuse my child when I trusted them to educate him! I most certainly would have had ample grounds for a major lawsuit and the entire community would have been without a school. Since no one else in our community but my husband and I gave a schist about our child we took matters into our own hands and he is now excelling well beyond the grade level that he was at when we pulled him out. Furthermore, in doing so we discovered that in fact the public school had seriously failed this child in many areas. Now he is well past those problem areas and is academically 2 grades above where he would be if he had stayed in public school. So Miss Joy, why don’t you learn more about what you have to say before you go spouting off your “demented” mouth, because the only person, who shows their true colors here, is you! People who do not do their homework and learn the truths about what they speak only put themselves in the firing line and only show how “unintelligent” they really are! And as for everyone else who jumped on the band wagon calling public school or private school children demented, SHAME ON YOU! Once again, it’s not the kids, it’s the educators and the bureaucrats who tie their hands! Think before you speak and do your homework people! If everyone just sat around passing judgment and not taking action to make positive changes then the entire world would just turn demented! Perhaps the vast majority of it already has.

A liberal? LOL...I can think of a few things to call Ms. Baher, but a liberal is not one of them. Liberal is defined as "Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry". Ummm...her comments ooze with bigotry and established mantra of the very established teachers unions which she mimics like a well trained parrot...

Ms. Behar's uneducated, biased comments against homeschoolers are a prime example of just one of the many reasons why I will not watch "The View." This is TV journalism at its worst. She obviously has no idea what homeschoolers are like, and she also makes it obvious by her attitude that she does not care. She needs to research rather than judge without walking in our shoes!

It isn't because she's a liberal. It's because she was once a public high school teacher and holds the prejudice against home schooling that many public school teachers do.

I can't believe anyone still watches this show anymore, especially after the way they conducted themselves this election season.

Jan. 2, 2009 - Where is the love of Christ?

Posted by Anonymous
In all honesty, I am appalled by the comments posted here in response to Joy Behar's flippant comments on home-schooling. As followers of Christ we are called to do unto others as we would have them do unto us, bless our enemies, and be a light unto men. How can we impact the world for Christ if one hurting woman's mere comments can throw us into a tizzy? Our response should not be a knee-jerk reaction with name-calling and defensiveness, rather a call to prayer, forgiveness, and a genuine search of our own hearts for any pharisaical tendencies. How can we possibly expect Joy Behar or anyone from the world's perspective to understand why we homeschool? It is only natural for her to respond the way she does.

Jan. 5, 2009 - DEMENTED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT! EDUCATIONAL NEGLECT MORE LIKE IT!

Posted by Anonymous
Let me tell you something. I have lived across the road about 3 houses down from a child who has not been to school since 1st grade. He should now be a 5th grade level. He does even know what 2x2 is. His parents neglect him all the time. He stays at our neighbors house most of the day when they he isn't at school. Defax visited them and they were not charged with anything! It is a sad day for our children in this country. I know if there is one like this in my neighborhood who is being educationally neglected, there are many all over the world. Homeschool may be a good idea for some people. But, when children are in a public school system and being abused, there is a chance a teacher, will notice and report it. However, at home, the child will never be around anyone who is by law required to report neglect or abuse, and therefore, will never be caught. Did you know that the homeschool law in Georgia does not require you to take any test in front of anyone other than a parent? Therefore, a parent could actually do the test or make an older sibling do it. The children will graduate whether they are qualified to do so or not. They could actually graduate high school and not be able to do anything! Please write to your state and ask that these laws be changed. Or, write to Obama! If we really want CHANGE we need to change how homeschool laws work.
If parents aren't really doing anything wrong, then, they shouldn't mind the laws changing to protect all children!!!
