Aug. 13, 2007 - The Better Blogging Movement #1
First off, this post is not meant to hurt or offend anyone. I am not pointing at anyone with my finger, and I am not saying that those who are awesome writers, are not. It is meant to help better writing skills and blogging skills.
I notice that there are some bloggers who do not care what they write about. There posts are sloppy, and that makes me think that they themselves are sloppy. They write, but it is pretty much about nothing. For example: (I made this example up, I did not take it from a blog.)
" Hey everyone sorey i haven't been on in a while there is like nothing going on in my life. we watched the movie, i am a nerd, it was really stupid but is was so good! please comment on my blog. nobody comments."
Okay, so maybe that is a little exaggerated, but at the heart (if there is one,) it is the same as some that are really posted.
One thing to think about is this, the way you blog is the way people will know you. Do you want to be know as the person who wrote the above post? Do you want to make that kind of impression?
I think that some people think that writing that way will get the attention of popular bloggers. First, those popular bloggers started out just the way they did; nobody knew who they were, and their writing propably wasn't as good as it is now. Second, those bloggers look for friends who can add something to their life such as encouragement, friendship, fun, and laughter. The person who wrote the post above seems like they really have nothing to offer for a friendship, unless you talk and write the same way. In that case, what a friendship!
If you can't think of something to write, either don't write, or think of something. My family enjoys reading a series of books where the main character write a newspaper column. He claims that he can write about anything, even the pencil he is using to write on the paper with. Bluejane and I try to do that. She blogged about our computer mouse and keyboard once, and it was an intelligent post that provided something to think about.
One more thing to think about, do you enjoy reading blog entries like that? If you don't even take the time to look at those entries, then who else would?
Here is your challenge: next time you post, write something with substance. Here is your subject: post about writing on your blog, and how to improve your blog writing. It doesn't have to be long, just intelligent!

Great post. I agree with you. Totally. I know of a few bloggers who ust have awful spelling and don't care to correct it. I still blog with them, and some I am good enough friends with to correct them.
A blogger, last fall, asked me what she could do to get more people reading and commenting on her blog. I told her to cut out the teenage lingo and start actually writing thoughts, instead of "Hey man, yeah, had a cool day." No one wants to read that. They want to read real thoughts.
So, kudos, Eyebright. Lovely post. I hope people don't get offended because I don't think there is anything to get offended by. I certainly don't think we shouldn't be friends with people who can't spell, but we should encourage them.
I'm sure you've noticed how terrible my writing is, but like you said I wan't always well-known blogger and my writing was much worse when I started.... practice makes perfect, right? lol
; )

Jocelyn

I am glad I could encourage you. I don't think you were being mean or snide. You were just speaking your mind in a loving way... some may call doing so "being opinated" but hey at least they're not calling us brainwashed... at least we have our own opinons. You were right on and well-written. ; )
And I hope you do get to be a published author. I wrote some articles for the Novak's magazine and they want me to be one all the time! I am excited!
And I working on getting my novel published. Mrs. Novak says she'll carry it in her catalog if I do. !!!
Love,
Jocelyn

Hello Eyebright!
Great post!
I agree with you. When people blog things like that, it makes you think of them in that way.
Keep writing Eyebright! :-)

Yup, I agree. For me, I don't really care what the subject someone writes about is as long as they write it in a coherent way that I can follow.

Wow, that is a great post, Eyebright! You put it exactly the way I would have put it. (In other words, you hit the nail on the head!)

That is a good point! We do need to be working on our writing skills more and writing substantial, worthy posts, (like you do!)
Sorry I haven't commented in awhile. I have been fairly busy with my new blog. Stop by and check it out!
Sincerely,

Goodness, my thoughts exactly. When people just write about absolutely nothing of any importance or meaning... It gets old. :) I know this was written forever ago, but still thanks for posting it when you did. :P I think I'm going to write something about it on my blog. :)
