Nov. 27, 2007 - Precious Memories
Okay, I know, this is my third post of the day, but when you have been gone for a week and a half, there are a lot of things you have to catch up on!
Jocelyn requires a special memory for the contest mentioned above, so this is mine. You didn't say a Christmas memory so...
I remember when I went to go get my very first, my very own, baby Nubian goat. I actually don't remember the getting of my Eyebright, but I remember getting to hold her on my lap on the way home. She was so cute! Her soft ears were longer than her head, she was a beautiful red-brown color, and she was a special, alive, little creature that was mine. I miss her so much.
That story reminded me of another one similar. I remember when I got my American Girl Doll, Addy. I had saved my money for two years to get her, and finally the day came when she arrived. We lived in an apartment complex then, so I excitedly ran to get it from the front office, with my Mommy. Just a note, Mommy did not run, and I probably didn't either, but Mommy did not run. After we had picked it up we started back to the apartment. At one point, these boys who were playing around saw the long box I was carrying, and shouted, "What's in the box? Ammo?" I nearly cried. How dare anyone call this doll that I had hoped for, dreamed about, saved for, and was dying to get home and open, ammo? When we got home, my loving family stood about excited for me as I opened the box. When I get nervous or excited, my hands shake, and they shook then. I finally got the box open, and there Addy lay!
There are my precious memories, treat them kindly. They don't take to well to jests.

Hey, I have the Addy American girl doll too! I believe she's lying in a cradle in my closet right now. But I remember when I DID used to play with her how fun it was to dress her up in all these different clothes. My mom made a LOT of clothes for our dolls. (Or so it seems in my memory now.)
So, lovely memories!
Oh yeah, just out of curiosity, are you planning to participate in the first SAYR discussion? I'm quite excited about it.

What a sweet memory. Nubians are funny (and ornery!)
I am so glad you're back. I did miss you while you were gone!
Love,
Jocelyn

I think my joy at receiving my American Girl doll (Molly) was about the same, except it was a gift from my grandparents. For me, the thought of spending $80 on a doll was completely out of the question (after all, $80 was a fortune!). So I opened the box and... there was the doll I had fondly gazed at in the catalog, complete with eyes that opened and closed (and glasses! I just loved the glasses).
My elder brother has read more American Girl books than I have. You are to tell no one that fact, okay? :-P
