Nov. 30, 2005 - My Trip With People to People

I opened the envelope, I quickly read what it said, and my mind swam with disbelief.  "I've been invited to go on a trip to Europe!"

The letter invited my parents and I to a meeting, where we could learn more about the organization, People to People.  After the meeting, my Mom said I could go if I could raise the $5,000 tuition. That's a lot of money for an 11 year old girl! I also had to fill out an application, with three letters of recommendation, and go through an interveiw.

I went to France, Switzerland, Italy, and Austria, and I had a great time.

When I left my house to get to the airport, boy was I sick!  I was nervous scared and extremely excited.  Our group had 42 students(I was the only one who homeschooled), and 5 chaperones.

In France we went to the Eiffel Tower, which was very tall, and the palace of Versailles,  which was beautiful.

That night at the hotel though, I coudn't get a hold of my mother on the phone for the longest time.  I was so upset and tired, that I was crying when I finally did get to talk to her.

We also went to the Louve, and saw the Mona Lisa.  A lot of other people did too!

In Austria we saw where The Sound of Music had been filmed, we rode the worlds second largest ferris wheel, and visited the salt mines of Salzburg.

We also had a medieval dinner at an old castle.  The liquid we were given to drink tasted vile! To this day I don't know what it was.

The thing that stuck out at me about Switzerland was the landscape.  It was beautiful!  Several old bridges and churches were graced by a visit from the People to People delagates.

Italy was also wonderful.  Our group took a ride in a gondola, which was probably my favorite part about Italy, and my friends attempted to hold the Leaning Tower of Pisa up.

Of course throughout my journey I had been trying to get presents for all of my beloved family. I had nothing for my Dad up to this point.  He likes to make garlic oil however, and so when I saw a bottle shaped like the Tower of Pisa, I grabbed at the chance.

I bought the bottle, and left the store happily.  That was when someone from our group told me that the bottle was full of alcohol.

I was mortified!  Me, a homeschooled, Christian girl, buying alcohol!?

My leader understood my predicament, and kindly cleaned the bottle out for me.

I had a wonderful time, even though I lost my camera.  The sights, sounds, and experiences were something I would love to do again.

Just recently I was invited to go on a trip with People to People to China.  I would have loved to go, but the thought of raising over $5,000 again made my mother pale! We also don't have the $400 dollars needed up front.

In Judges 18:6 it says, "The priest answered them, go in peace, your journey has the Lords approval."  I hope that all of my journeys will have the Lords approval, because I love to travel.

J was invited and I was always sorry we didn't do it. She didn't want to go. She isn't as adventurous as you are. I don't remember wher it was. We only knew about the People to People through you. B is going to Panama this summer for his mission trip.
