Mar. 13, 2008 - No, My Hair is Red, Not Blond

Posted in Having Fun!

*Note*

This post was not written to hurt any one's feelings, and I have nothing against people with blond hair.  You will find out why in the post below.  Also, some of my very, very good friends are blond, and I love them dearly.

Though my hair is red, deep down inside, I think I am blond.  Before I was born, my Mother prayed that I would have red hair, so God gave a red-headed baby, with the personality of a blond.

I could regale you with tales of how the blond in me shows.  I think I will only share three.

I have a friend who lives in a very nice house.  She only has one brother, and no sisters, therefore, it is very easy for them to keep their house clean.  Well, they have a screen door that is a solid pane of glass from the ground up to the top of the door frame.  Twice when I have gone there, I have run into that silly door.  The same house, the same door.  You would have thought that I would have learned a lesson!  Nope.  I ran into the same glass door, twice.

The second example happened a while back.  We were in the Fred Meyer parking lot, and I saw a license plate frame that confused me.  I ran up to Mommy and asked her about it.  "Mommy, is that license plate frame supposed to mean something?"  I thought it was supposed to be some rude comment or something.  It said, "My boss is a Jewish Carpenter".  Mommy looked at me as if I had lost my mind.  "Ah, Eyebright?"  Then it dawned on me.  Oh, I felt so stupid!

The third example makes me blush with shame every single time I think of it, or it is alluded to.  Last summer, my family was able to have dinner with the Suarezs, and we had a really great time.  My younger brother, Kekoa, loves to boast of my sisters, and my own, things.  Apparently his aren't good enough to boast about.  Well, he started talking about my pink mp3 player.  Naturally, Paulie wanted to know about it, and asked me what size it was.

I held up my hands confidently.  "Oh, about this long, and this wide."  I am very fond of my mp3 player, and said it rather proudly.  Paulie said, "No, I meant how many GB's is it?"

I probably blushed then, too.  How embarrassing!  Of course he meant gigabytes!

As if that wasn't bad enough, after the dinner, and the Suarezs were on their way again, as we were, Kekoa remembered it, and looked at me slyly and said, "So, Eyebright, what size is your mp3 player?"  I was taken in like a fool.  I confusedly answered, "Well, about yea long, and so wide."  Everyone laughed uproariously, as again, my face burned with embarrassment.  I had been duped.

Not again, however!  Try as they might, my brother and sister can't get me to tell them the size of my mp3 player.  Ha, ha!

What I said in the note at the top was true, I have nothing against blonds, I just wish I wasn't one!

Oct. 26, 2007 - Happy Birthday SuperAngel!!

Posted in Having Fun!

Everyone, today we are celebrating the 18th year of one very special blogger.  SuperAngel, even for the short time that I have known her has been thoughtful, kind, and a wonderful example to me.  Her desire to be a Godly young woman, and the posts she writes in that area, have helped me so much, to at least realize some things that I need to be working on.

For this party I hired a fan club (above) for the birthday girl, and I hired caterers (below), to make the cake.

SuperAngel has always been encouraging to me, so in honor of you, I am hereby bestowing this picture gift upon you.  I hope you like it!

Here's to you, SuperAngel.  You have been a blessing to me, now I hope to be a blessing to you.

Happy Birthday!

Aug. 16, 2007 - The Sound of Music

Posted in Having Fun!

I have decided to post about some of my favorite songs and artists.

  • The Boohers Brothers.  They sing gospel, and christian cowboy songs.  I love all of the cd's that this local family puts out.  They sing old cowboy songs, and write a few of their own.  It is simple and sweet
  • Randy Travis' "Don't Ever Sell Your Saddle", and "Rock and Roll".  I like others of his, too.
  • Alan Jackson's album "Precious Memories".
  • Any and All classical music.  Classical music rocks!  I particularly like Für Elise, and Canon in D.  When I listen to classical music, my heart races at the exciting parts, and gets caught up in the action.  For me, it is just like reading a book.
  • I love soundtracks from favorite movies.  I think my number one favorite soundtrack, however, is The Sound of Music.  My family can tell you that I sing those songs ragged!  The King and I is another one that I like to sing songs from.
  • The Happy Organ.  This was one of my Papafathers favorites.
  • Music Box Dancer.  This is a song that my Grandpa likes.
  • Lots of Hymns.
  • Charlotte Church.

I can't think of any others, but I love music, so there are tons more!

Jul. 4, 2007 - Rock Climbing as a Trusting Sport

Posted in Having Fun!

Yesterday, part of our extended family took us rock climbing at a state park near where we live.  We went to a large rock that stuck out of the ground and was fairly high.  Maybe the height of a one story building with a vaulted ceiling, or higher.  (I'm probably wrong.  I'm not very good with heights!  If Mommy blogs about it I can link  you over to her.)

First off, everything had to be set up, and then we all picked numbers to decide who got to go first.  Kekoa got the closest.  So he was put into a harness, hooked up to the climbing rope, and away he went.  He did pretty well, and got almost halfway to the top.  Then when he was ready to come down he was told to lean back in his harness like he was sitting on it.  That meant he had to let go of the rock.  He stood there for a moment, clinging to the rock and then gingerly put his weight into the harness and backed down off of the rock.  The whole time Big Cousin was telling him, "You're okay, I've got you."

Then came Little Cousin's turn.  Once he had all of his gear, and was given the okay, he charged up that rock like there was no tomorrow.  Once he even slipped and went swinging on the rope.  He just laughed and asked to do it again.  He got just about as far as Kekoa.

Bluejane went next, and went as far as the boys had, and then didn't know what to do next.  Big Cousin coached her past that point, and then she made it to the top.  She came down, and was shaking all over.  When we asked her if she would like to do it again she nodded emphatically, and said, "Yes!"

Then it was my turn.  I started up the rock and got stuck at the same point that Bluejane had, but managed to get over it.  I think that was the scariest part of the whole climb.  I made it to the top too.  Then coming back down, Big Cousin told me to lean back in the harness, and hold on to the rope.  I was standing where I had been desperately clinging only moments before!  Despite what you would think, that part was the least scariest for me.  I came down a conquering hero.

The whole thing was founded on trust.  I had to trust the gear, I had to trust the rope, I had to trust Big Cousin, and most of all I had to trust God.  It was pretty easy to trust everything because I trusted Big Cousin (At least in this area, other times...not so sure!) and everything he had.  It was a really great lesson for me.

All in all, I had a great time.  If you ever feel as if your faith and trust are lacking, just find an experienced climber, and go climb a rock!

Mar. 14, 2006 - Here is the Report

Posted in Having Fun!

First and formost, I would again like to direct everyone to a really neat blog called the Contenders.  I know all of my normal readers are probably tired of this, but JudeThree really wants to get the word out.  This blog is a safe and fun enviornment for homeschool bloggers to have debates, that will eventually help them to contend for their faith.

Next, I hope that all you out there who have even a small part of you that is a poet, to try their hand at my Poetry Contest.

Last of all, I'm going to tell you about my Kit Mystery Party that I had last Saturday.

The mystery part only took up a small portion of the time alotted for the party.  One of the girls I had invited was unable to come, so we had one of the other girl's Mom play one of the parts.  It was pretty funny to hear my friends mom say, "My name is Ruthie, I'm Kit's best friend!"

After that we sat at the table, and ate the refreshments that I had painstakingly prepared the day before.  Kiflis (the swedish pastry), fudge, jellybeans, and lemonade.

We talked alot (as girls are wont to do), and then I suggested(slightly nervously, even though I knew everybody) that we play some games.  I went and took a look at my list I had previously made, and we went off to play Dictionary, and some other bet-you-can't-figure-this-game-out games.

All in all, we had a really great time (at least I did).  Mommy really liked this party because it had easy clean up.  Pretty much everything was included in the kit, and the only other thing we had was the food and the table cloth!

Mar. 6, 2006 - No, It's Not My Birthday

Posted in Having Fun!

I'm having a party, I'm having a party!  As the title of this post states, it is not my bithday.   This last Christmas I received a Kit Mystery Party kit(an American Girl Product).  So I decided to use it!  Yes, for my friends and I it may be a little childish, but we're going to try anyway.

I have had quite a time trying to think of seven(only seven!)friends, and then making sure all of them can come.

The age range of my party goes from around the age of thirteen, to the age of around nineteen.  Remember this is only a party of seven(not including my Mother and I)!

Then the great debate was about what to serve for refreshments(My Father insists that refreshments means the drinks at a party.  He suggested Kool-aid!)  After much deliberation, the menu plan is as follows:

Lemonade,

Kiflis(a swedish pastry),

Pudding Fudge, and....

....Jelly Beans!

I went to a party once that served jelly beans, and I loved having that choice of snack.

Anyhoo, I am getting pretty excited about the whole thing, and can't wait until this Saturday(the day of the party).

Also, we are still waiting for baby goats to appear.  This long game of waiting is getting pretty tiring!

Feb. 27, 2006 - Weird Games

Posted in Having Fun!

My family plays the weirdest games.  Mostly it is just us kids, but occasionally Mommy and Daddy will join us.  I know you are probably going to laugh at some of these games.

The first game is called "Famous Last Words."  You play this game by everybody taking turns to think of the funniest famous last words before we die.  Nobody actually wins this game, but it is fun to see what everybody comes up with.  Unfortunatly, I can't think of any of the good ones right now.

Another game we play has the title of "Commercials."  In this game players take turns creating and showing a funny commercial selling a predetermined object.  This game gives us a lot of laughs too!

The last game I am going to tell you about is called " Make Me Laugh."  The name kind of gives away the point of the game.  One person has to stand up and do anything he can think of(within reason) to make his audience laugh.  The first person to laugh has to take his turn as a comedian.

One of our favorite ways to make the watchers crack up is to stare at one person with a strange look on your face.  Eventually, the person can't stand it any longer, and starts chuckling.

Well, there you have it, now you know what kind of kooky games my siblings and I play.  You still want to be my friends, right?

Feb. 25, 2006 - The Return of the Masks

Posted in Having Fun!

Well, everyone, here it is, the finished product.  I actually want to still put fur around his head, and maybe some on his eyebrows.

We had a really great time today, learning different ways to paint our masks so that they have depth, and will be easily noticable on stage.   I learned a lot, and want to make more masks.

Some of the other masks that the kids did were amazing!  Detail, and color added together made a beautiful(or cool) combination!  Most of the others did dragons, or horses, but I was the only one to do a troll.

Happy Blogging!

Feb. 20, 2006 - Central Oregon 101

Posted in Having Fun!

Howdy everyone!  First and foremost, I would like it if everyone could please go and look at this really neat blog.  It is a debating blog, for people to learn how to debate, you never know, this may come in handy for defending your beliefs!

I live in Central Oreegone(yes, I spelled it that way on purpose), it's a pretty good place to live.  Here I have friends and family, and a home that I love.

Central Oregon is, you guessed it, smack-dab in the middle of Oregon.  It gives us a good starting place to get to the rest of the state(though it would be better if we were already at our destination).

The flora and fauna give this area it's name, the High Desert.  The plants that grow wild here are the Sagebrush and the Juniper Tree.

There are lots of deer, birds, and rockchucks.  Snakes are around, as well as packrats, but you don't see them much.

The roads are dotted with small farms, small ranches, small old buildings(like the one below), and sagebrush.

We have our county fairs, always with a cowboy theme, and our Buckaroo Breakfast, always with a cowboy meal.

Peterson's Rock Garden is a fun attraction.  You can go and see the amazing miniature rock buildings erected by, who else, Mr. Peterson!  The picture below shows what kind of small buildings I am talking about.

Smith Rock is a fun place to go on a hot summer day.  You are sure to find the small store that carries rock climing gear, and the famous hucklebery ice cream that many central Oregonians are fond of.  This store was shown in the movie Rooster Cogburn, starring John Wayne.

The booming metropolis of Bend is the largest city, with many ritzy buziness districts, such as the Old Mill District.  Bend boasts a population of over 5o thousand citizens.

The numerous smaller towns of the three counties that make up Central Oregon, have long histories, some of which have a few things left over from a bygone era.  Shaniko, is a living ghost town, with the tiny population of about 30 people.

Almost every building in Shaniko is a museum of some sort, and you can start and finish your sightseeing tour in only a few hours.

Well, do you have an overwhelming desire to come and check this place out?  It's okay if you don't, because I don't either!

By the way, does anyone else on Homeschool Blogger live in or around Central Oregon?

Now for your study questions....

Feb. 17, 2006 - Kids!

Posted in Having Fun!

My family is getting pretty excited, because our three nubian goats are going to kid within the next two weeks.

Every morning we rush out to the goat pen, hoping, and not hoping(because it is so cold), that we will find little, baby goats curled up on the ground.

Baby goats barely ever have a bad day.  As soon as they are able they are leaping and jumping off of everything in sight.  They are one type of kid who doesn't mind taking his nap.  And they are one type of kid that will eat anything mommy serves!

My Mom says that baby goats remind her of King David, leaping and singing and praising God.  They frisk, and jump, and sing, and praise God with all of the energy they contain, and then settle down to get the energy to do it all over again!

Feb. 13, 2006 - Some Good Movies

Posted in Having Fun!

Some of you may have noticed that in my recent tags, one of my favorite movies is Yours, Mine, and Ours.  To avoid any misunderstandings, I want to tell you that it is the old version that I like.

Starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda, this is the story of a woman with eight kids, who marries a man with ten.  All in all, the family winds up with NINETEEN children, whoose ages range from newborn to 18.  You will definatly get a laugh from this movie!

Another movie that I like is the Court Jester.  Danny Kaye stars in this movie, and to my family, that usually means funny.

Part of a band of outlaws trying to put their child king back on the throne, Hawkins(Kaye) wants to do something big for his cause. He gets what he wants, but he is in for more than he bargained for!

The Long, Long Trailer, also starring Lucille Ball, and Desi Arnaz, this movie will take you on a wild ride.

If you are familiar with how Lucille Ball movies are, you can guess that this movie will also give you a laugh.

Lucy persuades her husband to get a trailer for them to travel in, while he is doing his job.  On their travels, Lucy get dressed by a salad, falls into a mud bath, and slides off of her satin bed sheets!

These are the movies that my family knows and loves, and most of them can be easily found.  These are good movies to watch when you are feeling blue!

Feb. 8, 2006 - Mask-Making

Posted in Having Fun!

This last Saturday, My sister and I went to a mask making class, for our choir.  We learned how to  make really neat masks.

First, we had to choose what sort of face our mask was going to be.  Sis choose to do a unicorn, and I choose to do a troll.

Mrs. Fisher, the teacher, showed us how to shape the mask, and make it 3-D.

On Sis's mask, for the mane of her unicorn, she just took paper, and snipped it with scissors all over.  Mrs. Fisher loved it and commented on it quite a bit.

On my mask, to make my troll have lots of winkles, I took construction paper and wrinkled it up.

To make the raised eyebrows, I cut two slits in a small piece of tagboard(which the mask is mostly made of) and pulled the two sides together.

We have not quite finished our masks yet, we will have another class for painting, and I still have a few phisical features to add to my troll.

Here are pictures of our masks.

If you would like to see some of the masks that Mrs. Fisher has made, then you can go check out her website.  She has made some pretty amazing masks!

Jan. 4, 2006 - Lets do Sudoku!

Posted in Having Fun!

My apologies for not writing sooner.  How was everyone’s Holidays!?  My family had a good time.  One of the presents I got was a book of Sudoku puzzles.

Sudoku is a relatively simple game.  You have to fill the empty boxes with the numbers 1-9.  These numbers have to be carefully placed in each individual row, column, and box.

Unfortunately I don’t have a picture, but here are some websites you can visit:

Web Sudoku  This website has different levels of sudoku, and instructions on how to figure it out.

Sudoku   This is almost the same as the other website, except here you can get a daily puzzle.

There is also many other Sudoku websites you can find using a search engine.

I have been having a blast doing the puzzles in my book.

If anyone else has been doing these puzzles, let me know what you think!

Dec. 17, 2005 - Gingerbread Houses

Posted in Having Fun!

Today my Mom, my Sister, and I went to a Christmas party for our 4-H group.  Most of the time was spent making gingerbread houses.

This was the first time in ten years that I had made a gingerbread house.  I was really excited!  My sister and I were slightly disappointed when we learned that we would have to share one of the kits, but it turned out to be a good idea because I don’t think we would have finished a house, each by ourselves.

There were some really great ideas, gum for shingles, square pretzels for shutters, and M&Ms for a walkway.

Our house had crushed mini-wheat’s on it, square pretzels for our windows, and mini spree’s as a tri around the edge.  It was really fun to have the mom’s come in and ooh and aah over our hard work.

As you can probably guess, we were pretty full of candy.  Several of the boys said, “Why make a house and then eat it, when you can eat the house while you are making it!”  Most of us girls did not share this view.

I really hope that I can make a gingerbread house next year, as well, instead of waiting another ten years!

Nov. 9, 2005 - I love my animals!!!

Posted in Having Fun!

I think I have a lot of animals. I may not compared to some of you out there, but I have quite a few.

I have two dogs.  That can be a deadly combination!  When they get a chance to rough house with each other, well, just make sure you are out of the way!

Dolly is the older dog, she is a buldog, as you can see from this picture:

Dolly is three years old, and always looks like someone hurt her feelings.

Once when we sprayed her with a water bottle, she ran and hid behind my dads arm chair.  She wouldn't come out, even when confronted with a treat!

Now, when Dolly catches sight of the bright, yellow squirt bottle, she will run and hide.

Our other dog is a beautiful Golden Retriever.  Her name is Kula, and she just turned one.

I had a really hard time taking this picture, Kula just wouldn't sit still!

One day Daddy came home and announced that a lady from work was selling Golden Retriever puppies.  He then procceded to tell us that the lady had ofered to give us one.  But as soon as we all commented on how cute they must be, he told us that we couldn't have one.

Well, everyday, when he would come home from work, we could tell he was breaking down.  We eventually went and got the one my dad had picked out.  He said he liked it because it was calm, but still playful.

Calm? No, but playful? Oh yeah!  I would say that Kula has a wiggely personality.  My mom says that she will grow out of it, but I wonder...
