Nov. 9, 2007 - Poem From Poetess
A few days ago, one of my readers, I don't know who it is other than "Poetess", wrote me a really neat poem, and I thought I would share it with you.
Posted by Poetess
Eyebright, I have written a poem for you! Hope you like it:
Eyebright
~~~~~~~~
She loves to read books
For you can never catch her without one
diving into different worlds
She won't come out until she's done
She's seen the great wall of china
She's shaken hands with kings
She has climbed a thousand mountains
She has been in many scenes
She has dined with the president
at an ocean she has looked
Just to reach the end and find
she had been reading a book
Thank you, Poetess!
Jan. 13, 2007 - A Poem ~ A Thoughtful Journey
This a poem that I wrote as one of my weekly compositions for school, the topic being Thinking.
A young lady sat a-dozing,
one fine and glorious day.
Her thoughts were drifting on the breeze,
and swept across the bay.
They traveled far, they traveled long.
They brushed a number of faces.
People who the woman loved,
with her kind, female graces.
Her thoughts flew over lands,
where dwelt poverty and despair.
Her eyes were wet, when
thinking of the children playing there.
Closer places fetched the thoughts,
to look upon a battle.
To think of kin, destroying men,
made her small teeth rattle.
The thoughts came back to the woman,
still leaning against a tall tree.
Her eyes were closed but her,
caring thoughts were still flying free.
She allowed them to journey to one more place,
a very worthy destination.
They flew inside the golden gates,
that lead to Him and Heaven.
And there she allowed her thoughts to rest,
letting them dwell with the Lord,
The thoughts became links between the two,
His love and hers, in accord.
Nov. 1, 2006 - Another Poem
This is a poem that I wrote last Easter. I didn't think I had finished it, but when I showed it to Mommy, she liked it very much and asked me to put it on my blog, so here it is.
two men were led into sight.
One man mean and evil,
the other a symbol of light.
A man stood in a room that was full,
of people whose eyes were accusing.
Pilate who thought that he had the choice,
the Lord was doing the choosing.
Exchanged for a man who was wicked,
Jesus was sentenced to die.
The many people who loved him so,
could just stand there and softly cry.
He was mocked by the soldiers of Rome.
They cast lots for the clothes on his back.
He was gouged by a spear and nailed to a cross,
to make up for the goodness we lack.
By dying a hard and painful death,
He had the world's burden of sin on his shoulders,
and because he died, I was saved by grace,
and He will help me to lift life's boulders!
For me he died,
He died for me,
because he died,
I now live free!
May. 13, 2006 - "None Other Than My Mother"
This is a poem that I wrote for Mothers Day. It is (obviously) dedicated to my Mom. Some of the lines don't quite rhyme, but I like it anyway.
There is a certain person,
In almost every human's life,
That made me what I am today,
And protects me from much strife.
This person wants to teach me,
To determine right from wrong,
Upon the path that God has set,
For me to travel on.
From baking yummy cookies,
To singing hymns all day,
This person is so special,
To me in every way.
With love that cannot ever end,
This woman tries to raise me,
To follow God throughout my life,
And to love everyone I see.
Although I often go astray,
We will always love each other.
This wonderful person in my life,
Is none other than my Mother!
Apr. 14, 2006 - A Poem
I would like to follow up my poetry contest with a poem that I wrote. Alas, it does not have anything to do with cats, but I like it, and so do all of the other people I showed it to. Here it is.
A stream bed is protected
By the water flowing by,
The earth is protected
By the atmospheric sky,
The plants are protected
By the cool when it is nigh',
Young are protected
By their mother near by,
But only God can protect
The humans you and I.
I wrote this quite a while ago, and I was very pleased with myself. I like to write poems, funny poems, serious poems, any kind of poems. They just have to rhyme because I can't follow a poem very well unless it rhymes.
By the way, isn't rhyme a weird word?
Anyway, the closest success I got to in writing a funny poem was a limerick. Alas! woe is me, I can't remember how it goes. However, I do remember that when I showed it to my mother, she laughed SO hard. (Yes, it was very embarassing. I had thought it funny but not that funny! Please remember that this took place some time ago.) At the time my mother was the coordinator of the homeschool support group, and she put it on the back of the newsletter. *Gasp!*
Yes, yes, that's okay. There, there, it wasn't that bad. Of course, I just had the idea that it was the first time I had ever been published! Hey, maybe it was a good thing! Right?
I want to encourage all of you out there to find the poet within you. Maybe you can get a limerick published at an early age too!
The second part of my post is dedicated to my brother Kekoa. No he didn't die. He is new at blogging and has never been tagged, so here is a tag made especially for him.
1. Are you capable of saving candy for any period of time.
If I make myself save it.
2. If so, what type of candy stays at the bottom of your stash for eternity?
Well, I still have some chocolate at the bottom of my box that has been there for, maybe two years.
3. What type of container do you contain sweets in?
A Hershey's tin.
4. Do you hide you delicious treasure, or do you trust your siblings enough to know thry would never dream of taking your lifelong savings!?
I wouldn't say it was hidden, but it is not where it can be seen!
Apr. 11, 2006 - The Results of the Poetry Contest
Hello everyone! I was reminded just recently that I have a poetry contest to wrap up! Oops!
I only had two contestants. That's okay though. Futurewriterandvet had a neat poem, and it was very poetical.
Justaname also had a cool poem, and I really liked that it rhymed. (No offense Futurewriterandvet!)
Please follow the links above to read both of these poems for yourself.
Out of the many wonderful poems that were submitted I have decided that...Futurewriterandvet has won Eyebright's not annual, bi-annual, or monthly poetry contest!
Please also remember that there is no prize for the winner, EXCEPT, the fact that you DID win the contest. Hey, sometimes that feeling can be pretty good!
Thank you everyone for participating, and waiting patiently until I actually remembered I was still doing this!
Feb. 1, 2006 - Poem That Was Not Written by Me
Please enter my mom's contest. The deadline is tomorrow.
This is very funny poem!
It was written by Shel Silverstein, not me.
Sick
"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
"I have the measeles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash, and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more-that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut, my eyes are blue-
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke-
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb,
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tounge is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is--What?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is...Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!"
Nov. 29, 2005 - The rest of my unnamed Christmas poem
"Where did this come from?"
asked the tall man.
The girl ran and picked up,
a bear that was tan.
The mice hadn't got much,
but the family was happy.
The little boy cried,
"I feel all clappy!"
And then, right there,
they knelt and they praised
the one who had come
to the earth to be raised.
The small mouse was puzzled.
But his questions were answered,
when the man told his children,
of the earth God had entered.
He told them how Jesus,
had been born in a manger.
How, in that time,
Joseph had been a stranger.
The children sat listening,
as the man told the story,
Of Christs crucifixion,
that was bloody and gory.
The mouse started crying
"Oh, woe is me,
Jesus Christ died
to set you and me free!"
"I already know that,
we are both sinners.
But only with Gods help,
can we both be winners!"
The mouse did a victory dance,
right then and there,
and then knelt with the family,
as they finished their prayer.
That night the poor family,
felt rich as kings.
Though the gifts were few,
they had many things.
They were together,
and had a few presents.
But best of all,
they felt the Lords presence.
And that night also,
a small little mouse,
was shown the light,
by THE MAN of the house.
That is the conclusion to my poem. My mother insisted on telling me that a mouse can't be saved, but, as I told her, it is just a story.
(And you never know, someday I could be a famous poet!)
Nov. 28, 2005 - My Christmas Poem
This is a poem that I wrote about Christmas. It dosn't have a name yet, so if you have any suggestions...
Twas the night before Christmas,
and all through the house,
only one creature was stirring,
and that, was the mouse.
He knew of the yuletide,
yet all was not right.
He had felt the tension,
in that joyless night.
The family was poor,
their pockets were bare.
Mouse was sorry for them.
How could he share?
He didn't have much,
nothing to give.
He had only enough
so that he could live.
Mouse had an idea.
Oh, he must be quick!
He ran out of doors,
and, oops, it was slick!
He went to his cousin,
for she stayed up late.
"Do you have any money?
Please help me Kate!"
They ran to the toystore,
and though it was closed,
through a hole in the back,
tha little mice nosed.
They both ran around,
picking objects to share.
They left money behind,
then left for their lair.
They had to make trips,
to carry the load.
And while they were working,
it snowed and it snowed.
When all was done,
they climbed into bed.
Together, so tired,
they laid down their heads.
All through the next morning,
they sat and they waited.
Great looks of surprise,
they anticipated.
But the family slept in.
They did not know,
they were hurting the feelings,
of the two mice below.
When the family woke up,
and rubbed sleep from their eyes,
the mice got what they wanted,
many looks of suprise!
I reget to inform you, that this poem that dosn't have a name will be continued at a later date. (It's kind of a long poem, I wanted it to have 25 verses, and I just realized-this is a very long poem!)
