Jun. 24, 2009 - Sewing For Myself
Mine has always been a love/hate relationship with the sewing machine. I love old sewing machines, and what you can do with them, but something always go wrong when I put my foot to the pedal.
However, face with the possible prospect of living in a motorhome with limited space, and having to make every piece of clothing count, I decided it was time I make sew myself some clothes.
Oh, and Shannon from A Maiden's Musings always inspires me, too.
I have one project to finish, though, before I can truly begin work on my

blouses, skirts and dress.
I really can't wait, though, and I hope they turn out as lovely as I imagine them in my head. They usually don't, but I always hope they do.
I will definitely post pictures of my finished garments. That is, if I like them.
I am so excited! I love getting new clothes!

May. 28, 2009 - Skirt Remake
What do you do when you stand and stare at all of your clothes, and find nothing that appeals to you? Remake!
I finally decided that this skirt was too long, so I shortened it up a little, and added some frill.

Before & After:

I definitely like the way it feels, but the overall appearance will take some getting used to. What do you think?

Mar. 17, 2009 - Cell Phone Cozy
I am sure that you have had times where, you see something that you really like. "Well, of course!" you say. "Hasn't everyone?" However, have you ever seen something that you really like, and then realize that you would never use it, but you still want it anyway? I do. I try to figure out ways that I could use the item in question.
For example, a cell phone cozy.

I saw this pattern in a book called Wagashi. Now, I don't use a cell phone holder, I just stick my phone into my purse and call it good, but when I saw this, (which was the only thing that I really liked in the book), I decided that I would try to start using one!
I have just about finished mine. I still need to add a snap, and a clip on the back. I have never been too keen on hand sewing, but this is entirely hand-sewn, and I actually enjoyed it! Mostly, anyway. :)

These were the first Yo-yo's I have made, and I absolutely love them! While I was making them, I couldn't help but think of Vintagegirl. :)
I also learned how to do the Herringbone stitch, which I like very much. It looks so good on the edge of this case! Now, what else can I use it on? Hmm.

It took me a while to decide what fabrics I wanted to use, as our collection is limited to what we have picked up from other people. Not a lot of it matches. At first, I wasn't sure I would like the red with the orange, but now that it is all done, I love it.
Next on my sewing list, is a skirt made with some rather interesting material. Stay tuned!

Jul. 2, 2008 - A Long, Slow, Boring Read About My Quilt-in-Progress
After my Mom wrote an facinating post on absolutely nothing, saying she wanted to start blogging on her personal blog more, I figured it was about time I come up with something that I hope sounds interesting. If not, which is what I expect, please don't sue me.
I am working on a quilt out of scraps of fabric that a friend gave me. I was excited when I first started, because I thought for sure it would beautiful. It is not anything fancy, just squares in a paricular pattern, but the example that I had seen was so cute, that I had wanted to try it.
I guess I should also say that this is going to be my first real quilt ever, if I ever finish it. The other day, Bluejane came in and told me "You should go work on your quilt". It baffled me, so I asked her, "Why?" She said, "Because, I can't wait for you to finish it, so that I can see it!"
That made me excited, because it's not very often that I can get her excited about any of my projects.
Yes, I do plan on posting pictures, but again, that depends on whether or not I finish it. You never know with me!

Apr. 30, 2008 - My Graduation Dress
Here are some pictures of the dress that I will be wearing at my graduation ceremony. All of the graduates decided that they wanted to wear caps (so that they could throw them at the end of the ceremony), but NOT gowns. We all also got to pick our own colors, so the ceremony decorations will be vibrant! My hat is pink, so I wanted my dress to match my hat.

The pattern is actually a combined pattern of two 1950's dresses. The first one, a Simplicity pattern, the bodice was not really my style.
So I took the bodice from the second pattern that I liked, a Vintage Vogue pattern. I also raised the back and front of the bodice, because they were too low for my liking.

Yes, this last picture looks rather bleached. They were taken in the front room of my Grandparent's house, which has a very large window. I like it, the dress I mean, and can't wait to show it to everyone who doesn't read my blog. And, no, Jocelyn, this is not my Feelin' Feminine Challenge post. (I much prefer to wear skirts than dresses!)

Jun. 13, 2007 - Preparing for the Ball
Well, today I get to go to Grandma's. We are going to be working on my Civil War Ball Dress. I am so excited! I have been envisioning what it will look like in my mind for weeks now, and we are finally going to get working on it.
I plan on entering it in the fair, so I have to get done rather quickly. I only hope I can do it without crying. I get kind of frustrated when I am sewing and don't understand what I am supposed to do. I get tired very quickly when I sew. I am just glad that Grandma is going to be there to help me.
We are going to be doing a lot of fitting this time. Last time, when I made a medieval dress and cloak, the front of the dress was too loose because we didn't fit the dress. This time though...
I am hoping to post pictures of it, at least when it is finished, so you will get to see them.
