May. 10, 2008 - Happy Mothers Day!

This is a poem that I wrote for Mothers Day.  It is (obviously) dedicated to my Mom.  Some of the lines don't quite rhyme, but I like it anyway.

There is a certain person,

In almost every human's life,

That made me what I am today,

And protects me from much strife.

This person wants to teach me,

To determine right from wrong,

Upon the path that God has set,

For me to travel on.

From baking yummy cookies,

To singing hymns all day,

This person is so special,

To me in every way.

With love that cannot ever end,

This woman tries to raise me,

To follow God throughout my life,

And to love everyone I see.

Although I often go astray,

We will always love each other.

This wonderful person in my life,

Is none other than my Mother!

Sep. 5, 2007 - Whistle While You Work

I'm sure that all of you have had to do the dishes, at least every once in a while, but how many of you enjoy doing those dishes?  No, seriously, I would really like to know if anyone does like doing the dishes, and their secret.  Why do you enjoy washing the dishes?

I don't mind doing them so much anymore, since I got my mp3 player.  I can go online to the public library website and download books onto it.  Currently I am listening to The Count of Monte Cristo.

See, what I do is this, I get the player all hooked up and turned on, tuck it into a pocket, or sling it around so that it hangs down my back, and then begin.  It does wind up taking me a little longer, as I get slower so that I can pay attention to the story, but I don't entirely dread it anymore.

What do you guys do while you wash the dishes?   A lot of you probably have sisters who help you with that, so you can talk to them, but there is no way I could convince my sister to help me!

I guess, really, it isn't that bad after all.  It is only the thinking about it part that I really dislike.  "Aww man, I have to get up and do the dishes!"  Once I get going it is not that bad.

By the way, for those of you who do not have a personal audio device, you could put a cd in your computer and turn the volume up loud, or get a portable cd/tape player.  It doesn't have to be a story, either.  You can listen to your favorite upbeat music, yes, upbeat, while you work.  This is what the phrase "whistle while you work" was made for.  Something to get you moving!  It also helps to make everyone more cheeful if they are listening, too.
