Jul. 15, 2008 - Birthday Blessings
I had a great birthday!

The fun began on Sunday, when I was feeling a little sorry for myself. That sentence doesn't make much sense, does it? Just keep reading...
I was thinking about how my mom is no longer here and that I have been missing her lately. At church on Sunday night the preacher began his sermon, and then out of the blue he stops and asks if anyone has a birthday this week. No one in our church knows I have a birthday this week. No one knew what I'd been feeling-I hadn't shared it with anyone but God. I got tears in my eyes when I realized this was a Happy Birthday FROM God. He knew how I was feeling- He knew I needed a little something special. He sent me a little love, and reminded me that even though my parents aren't here on earth, my birthday isn't forgotten in heaven. God knows the day I was born and as my Father He wished me Happy Birthday.
Then, a friend from church blessed me with a birthday cake. She called on Monday morning and asked if I had a cake. I told her that I had not made one yet, and she said she would like to bring me one. I was so touched! God just keeps making this birthday better. Isn't it a pretty cake?

We ate 4 loaves. My steak was cooked perfectly and the kids brought home enough leftovers for lunch. So that means, 1-I didn't have to bake my own cake, 2-I didn't have to cook my own dinner, and 3-I don't have to cook the kids lunch--this birthday keeps getting better. When we got home we enjoyed our cake and then it was time for presents. Earlier this week, Joel told me that he wanted to get me a Wii for my birthday. I told him I'd love that- (but I never thought it would happen). We've wanted one of these since before Christmas, but could never find one in stock. Can you guess what I got? I GOT A WII! After receiving it, I pointed out to the kids how we've been patiently waiting and God saw fit to bless us with this game for my birthday.
Through my birthday, I've been reminded that God gives great gifts. We as a family all got something we've wanted, Joel got to give me what was on his heart for my gift and the kids got to see that God really does care about everything we care about (1 Peter 5:7). He cares about your getting a Happy Birthday from your parent. He cares about your having a birthday cake. He even cares about the silly, unimportant things like a video game. This birthday has shown us His amazing power (John 1:12), His endless love (John 3:16) and His abundant provision (Matthew 7:11). After all, only God could arrange for a video game to bring Him glory.
This birthday would not be complete without remembering the greatest gift I've ever received-My eternal salvation, through Jesus Christ my Lord. (Romans 1:16, Ephesians 1:3-14)
Thank you Lord for all your great gifts. Amen.
