Mar. 21, 2008 - Easter Eggs and Easter Gifts

Posted in March 2008

The kids were playing a new game this morning.  Jackie took some of the little, plastic Easter eggs and filled them with tiny pieces of paper.  They each took turns picking eggs-with the instructions that they have to do whatever is written on the paper inside.  I thought to myself, “Oh-that’s cute.”  But, oh my word…was I ever in for a sweet surprise.  After I got hold of those eggs, I discovered the real treasure inside of each one.  Here is a sampling of what was written on those pieces of paper:

             Help Mommy with a chore.

Tell Daddy to get Mommy flowers.

            Help cook the pizza.

Tell Mommy you love her and everything she does.

You just won a beauty shop ticket for today.

Write a letter to one of your friends.

            Help Mommy with dishes.

Sing a silly song for Mommy.

            Do a funny dance.

Tell Daddy that you’re glad he’s your dad.

Candy filled eggs have nothing on these eggs, after all these eggs are filled with love.  If that doesn’t demonstrate the meaning of Easter, I just don’t have a clue what could.  Aside from Jesus dying on the cross and rising again for me, my husband, my children, my family, you, everyone…there’s just no greater Easter present than seeing my children grow in the love of Jesus.

Thank you Jesus-for loving me, for dying and rising again to save me.  Thank you Jesus-for a glimpse of you in my home this morning.  Thank you Jesus-for giving this tired, and sometimes weary, mother a gift of pure, sweet, innocent love.  Thank you Jesus-for having a servant’s heart and for developing such a heart in our home.

Thank you Jesus…

He is risen indeed!  Hallelujah!

Amen.

Mar. 20, 2008 - Adopt a...

Posted in March 2008

Dad took the day off today and we went on a little field trip.  Where to, you ask?  We took a highly educational trip to the…mall.  Yes, the mall.  But don’t worry, it wasn’t just for the shopping (even though we did do a little-Easter is Sunday you know).  We honestly were at the mall for learning purposes, and it wasn’t an economics lesson either.  It was science!  See, that’s why Dad wanted to come.  We went to visit the Butterfly Pavilion exhibit.

We watched butterflies flitting about and landing in our shopping bags (they are mall butterflies after all).  We saw butterflies on people’s heads, butterflies eating on oranges and butterflies trying to escape.

After observing the butterflies we moved on to the next part of this lesson.  The butterfly experiment!

We adopted two caterpillars and brought them home with us.  Aren’t they cute?

Be sure to check back to see their progress.  We’ll post pictures as they change and hopefully we’ll have a couple of pretty butterflies soon.  See, you really can learn anywhere-even the mall.
