• Oct. 18, 2006 - Photo of Black Bear mother and cubs

Posted in Our Fauna

This is a photograph I took of a Black Bear and two of her three cubs (the third had run back into the brush).  Using my digital camera, I took this photo from my car, parked on the other side of the highway.  We received one "whoof!" from mama as a warning to stay away - which we did!  She ignored us, kept an eye on her two adventurous cubs and frequently peeked into the bushes at her shy, third cub.  They happily grazed on grass for more than ten minutes, cropping the grass in much the same way as a horse.  Bears in the Interior of BC are omnivores but prefer to eat herbaceous foods (plants, roots, berries).
