• Oct. 18, 2006 - The Black Bear - An action poem for families

If your children are anything like mine, they enjoy action poems and songs.  I found this bear-themed action poem a while ago.  It's not often one finds a nature-inspired action poem that is fun and an accurate description of the creature!

The Black Bear

Here is a cave, (make a fist)
Inside is the bear. (tuck thumb into fist)
Now he comes out, (pull out thumb)
To get some fresh air. (gently wiggle thumb)

He stays out all summer, (gently wiggle thumb)
In sunshine and heat. (wiggle thumb side-to-side)
He hunts in the forest, (wiggle thumb back-and-forth)
For berries to eat. (move thumb in a circle)

When snow starts to fall, (wiggle fingers of other hand over 'bear')
He hurries inside (wiggle thumb quickly)
His warm, little cave, (make slight opening in fist)
And there he will hide. (put thumb back inside fist)

Snow covers the cave (wiggle fingers of other hand over 'cave')
Like a fluffy white rug.  (continue to wiggle fingers)
Inside the bear sleeps, (make a snoring sound)
All cozy and snug. (cover fist with other hand)
