Paul Potts

Wow!!! I just stopped by a friend's house today to drop off a copy of poster he had designed for Feed Your Faith. As I was turning to leave, Michael said "Wait, I want you to come and see this video." I was in a hurry to leave because I had promised to take the kids swimming. "I have five minutes", I said.

So, here is the background. In England, there is a show called "Britian's Got Talent". It is the same as "America's Got Talent" in which people come on stage with any talent they have and try to impress the judges into voting them on to the next round. Piers is one of the judges (he is on both "AGT" and "BGT"). Simon Cowell from American Idol is one of the other judges. Anyway....

Paul Potts is a VERY ordinary Joe. He comes out on stage and you can tell from the looks on the judge's faces they don't think they will be impressed. When they ask "What will you be doing?" and the answer is "Singing opera" you can almost see the laughter in their eyes.

That brings me to the clip of the performance. View this and then read on.

I have to say that I was very impressed by:

  1. How incredibly talented Paul Potts is.
  2. How incredibly humble Paul Potts is.

I have watched this video 3 times now (and probably would watch more if Donna would let me) and I have had tears in my eyes each time. I just think it is very cool when someone with amazing talent is so humble and gracious and nervous. He honestly didn't think he would make it past the first round. These shows have a lot of people that just want to be on TV, but every once in a while there is a "diamond in the rough."

Congratulations Paul Potts. Go make your dream to sing come true.

Update
As of this evening, Paul Potts’ MySpace page lists his occupation as “EX - Carphone Warehouse Salesman”. ;) This evening he won Britain’s Got Talent. Next week, he will be recording his first record, and soon he will be singing for the Queen. :)

I make fun of you and your You Tube obsession...but I have to admit this was very neat...and brought a tear to my eyes too. Now stop watching and go get me some ice cream :)

I watched that last week and was just stunned--and weepy. I got all weepy again just thinking about it!

I'm glad I came across your blog. I love the reaction of the judges when they realize that Paul wasn't going to turn out to be a joke!
