I've been tagged

Dr. Hibiscus tagged me on his blog so here is the deal.

1 Pick up a book that is near to you
2 Go to page twelve in the book
3 Read the first two sentences and post it on your blog
4 Also post the book title and the name of the author
5 Tag 3 other People : )

Page 12 reads: My indignation was a lava flow: "God, what's the deal? You know how I get. You know I get fired up sometimes, but I always seem to catch myself before I do something really dumb.

The book is Lifestories written by Mark Hall, lead singer of the Contemporary Christian group Casting Crowns.

If you like the music of Casting Crowns (or even if you don't), this book is wonderful. Mark Hall tells a story of inspiration that is behind each of the songs he has written for Casting Crowns. He then has a "God line" section where he ties the song and the inspiration back to scriptures. The last section is called "The bottom line" and asks some practical application questions for life.

When I set the book down after typing out the sentences from page 12, the book was open to page 104 when I picked it back up. This is the first paragraph to "The Bottom Line" for the song "God Imitators".

  • In your own words, write down a simple definition of what it means to be an "imitator of God." Now, honestly assess your walk with Jesus. How seriously do you take the charge to be an imitator of God? How does this show up in your life?

That is the first of 3 bullets from this section associated with this song. I have to say that this book is very enjoyable from a Casting Crown's fan standpoint, but also forces you to look deep within yourself.

I guess that was more then the tag said, but oh well.

I'm tagging partyoffive, arajbrown, and queenofthehill

Jul. 18, 2007 - Being a God imitator

Posted by Father2Five

Hi Mike,
Thank you for this post. I have found that Mark Hall seems to know just what I need to hear from God's word in his music. In my walk, I try to be as caring to others as I can. I have used the song "Here I go Again" as a reminder to be bold and share my beliefs with others. Especially when they are facing life threatning health problems and need hope to cling on to. I agree with Dad2Three when he wrote "I do not believe Christians should withdraw from their culture because it's not biblical. I do think they need to be reminded regularly that they are in the world but not of the world."

I believe that we should imitate God in our character and yet not require that everyone look like they just walked off the set of Little House on the Prairie.
As I explained to our pastor, people take note and compliment us at restaurants for how well our children are behaved and it brings great joy to my wife and I. We dress very modestly in clothing from our era, and by doing so I believe whatever good character people observe is not lost in prejudice that comes from stereotyping. Being a God imitator to me is not as difficult when I am focused on helping out others who are in need, but terribly difficult when I have shifted the focus to poor old me.
