Very pre-occupied...

Sorry about the lack of blogging. My mind has been very occupied with my upcoming Lee Strobel event. By the time I'm done with that (along with everything else) all my creative juices are used up. For those of you that have heard about the Lee Strobel event (and those that haven't), come check us out at www.feedyourfaith.org.

Make plans to attend, and get yourself a ticket. We'd love to have you there and Compassion Coalition will also be thankful.

I'll try to get inspired....

Mike

Feeling uninspired but...

Here are a few more pictures from Evan Almighty. Hope to get more inspiration tomorrow. I am feeling better now that Peyton Manning has a Super Bowl win.

Enjoy the pics...

Enjoy and I'll think of something interesting to post tomorrow. Time for bed.

Valuable lesson learned

Caleb is playing basketball this year with a boy that defines the word "ball hog". Logan refuses, under any circumstance, to pass the ball to any of his team mates. I have often made comments and encouraged (quite loudly) for Logan to pass during the games.

Today, I was visiting the Christian Bookstore next to Home Depot in Maryville. I was trying to get the to hang up a poster for my upcoming Lee Strobel event. I was nervous asking because the event is being sponsored by one of their competitors, Cedar Springs Christian Store. Cedar Springs is displayed on these posters.

Anyway, as I walked in the door to the bookstore, I was greated by a very friendly lady at the cashier's area. I asked her if she would be willing to put up my poster. Her response was: "Your son plays basketball with my son." I had never seen this women before that I remember, so I asked who her son was. Her response, of course was,

LOGAN

She must not have ever heard me at the basketball games because she happily hung up my signs. Guess I better be careful what I say and who is around.

Evan Almighty...

I was having a conversation with my brother-in-law from Seattle this weekend and the topic of my cousin (Brooks) came up. I am an only child and Brooks is my only cousin. He is 7 years older then me and I have looked up to him as long as I can remember.

Brooks is a "Hollywood Camera man". I always enjoy listening to the stories of music videos and movies he has filmed. Meeting people like Phil Collins, Eddie Van Halen, and Morgan Freeman just to name a few. the most facinating people I meet at work are "Joe Blow the mad Ford guy". Not that all celebs are necessarily interesting people but I think you get the point.

So in honor of my favorite (and only) cousin, and because I think these are very cool, today's blog will be pictures from his latest movie, "Evan Almighty". This movie is the sequel to "Bruce Almighty" with Jim Carrey. In E. Almighty, Steve Carroll (aka Evan) is a modern day Noah and God (Morgan Freeman) has instructed him to build an ark.

Before the pictures, one sidenote. This is not posted to start a discussion about God and movies and such. This is just an interesting set of pictures from an interesting "career". Enjoy the pictures.

Hope you enjoy. It's crazy listening to some of the things that do to make movies "come alive".

Basketball Jones....

... aka Caleb, my 6 year old son, just had his 3rd game this morning. He is playing Upwards basketball (great program) and is doing a great job. This may be a biased dad talking but I think he is doing great.

Caleb played 5 of the 6 periods today. Normally they get to play 3 of 6 but they were short players today. You could tell by the end of the game that he was very tired.

That is the thing that I love about kids. When they are trying to do something well, they will put everything they have into what they are doing. He played the entire 2nd half (18 straight minutes) and although he was tired and thought he was going to get to sit down the last 6 minutes, he kept going.

We can learn a lot from our kids and I learned a valuable lesson watching my son today. In life, sometimes you may be tired and it may be your turn to rest. Sometimes you get the rest you deserve, and sometimes you just have to keep going until the buzzer sounds.

Thanks for the reminder buddy, and I'm proud of you.

mrfyf (aka Daddy)

Boy Bands....

I am the husband of a retired "queen" of the Boy BanDs. As a tribute to her, I have inserted various references to boy bands to this blog.

My challenge is this.... If you find one, post a comment to what you have found. If you have a unique story about your teen years having to do with "boy bands" or musical groups, post those comments as well.

Until next time... Bye, Bye, Bye.

Happy Hunting

Sometimes you just wish you could hit someone!

Ok, here's my situation.....

I've been working on a relationship with a UT basketball player for about a year and a half. In exchange for my "excellent customer service" I have, on occasion, recieved tickets to games. (Sidenote: before you ford owners start laughing at that last line, remember the times I've helped you)

Anyway.... this particular basketball player was in my place of employment today. When he was getting ready to leave, a salesman (whom I hate, or at least strongly dislike) walked up to us. He said, and I quote...

"You guys are playing terrible basketball. I hope you guys get your act together before Sunday's game. Looks like you guys are depending on (Chris) Lofton too much. I thought you were better then that."

Then he walked away. Thank you, Mr. Salesman, for the wonderful and uplifting message.

At least Ryan Childress is good natured. He looked at me, winked, and said, "Send him with me to practice today for five minutes. We'll show him some terrible basketball."

"New Edition" to the blogging world...

Well, here I am. One of the last blogging holdouts has finally joined the elitist world of bloggers. I've been told that all the cool people blog, and since I can't blaze my own trail, I decided to follow everyone else.

In all seriousness, I've been giving a lot of thought to my first blog topic. I could write about the wonderful (partyoffive) in which I make up one tiny, somewhat secondary piece. (isn't that what dads become after we have kids) I have found that I am no longer Mike; I am Caleb, Bekah, and Elisa's dad.

I could write about the beautiful state of Tennessee where I currently live. I could write about my friends. But as I sit down at this screen with a blank canvas that no one will look at, I am going to write about my current passion: Feed Your Faith.

Feed Your Faith is a ministry that I started almost a year ago. It has consumed most of my extra curricular time (after work, family, and church).

The mission of Feed Your Faith is to bring the best Christian speaker to the Knoxville area, open these events to the public, then donate the proceeds to local ministries. Speakers like Greg Koukl and Lee Strobel. Ministries like Second Harvest Food Bank and Compassion Coalition.

March 22nd, 2007, Lee Strobel will be in Knoxville, TN. He will be "on air" at Joy 62 from 7-8am and at Love 89 from 8-8:45am. He will then make his way to Cedar Springs Christian store on N. Peters Rd. for a book signing from 2-3:45pm. His day will conclude as he speaks at Grace Baptist Church on Oak Ridge Highway at 6:30pm. Lee will be speaking on the topic "Case for Christ", the title of his New York Times Bestseller.

For more information about this spectacular day, visit www.feedyourfaith.org. We would love to see you there. If your church would be willing to display posters or promote this event internally, please e-mail me at mike@feedyourfaith.org.

I know this is not the typical first blog post. However, if a blog is a place to tell about what is going on in your life, then this is the perfect first post for me.
