Blog Neglect?

Posted in Family

Blogging has taken a hit during our busy days of the past week.

I've started four entries, but never have time to finish them.  I wish I could be like some blog writers, spewing forth an entry in thirty minutes.  That isn't my style, to write the last entry took me two hours. I read and re-read the entry. I believe that words are powerful and I don't want to ever regret writing a post.  Even now as I type, Grace wants me to teach her how to draw a smiley face.  I thought that I'd entertain Liz and Grace with the TV.  They had been watching "The Aristrocats".  But Grace isn't really into watching TV, and I enjoy how entertaining she is for me.  I also need to write up Jen's school assignments for the week and print out some leaves for our Thanksgiving Tree.

So what do I do all day?  I've been pondering that question.  Ten years ago at work they did something called a Time Study.  During the study we had to keep track of what we did and how long it took us to do it.  Maybe I need to do a Time Study of my day?  Maybe not?

Here I'll give you a sneak peek of what I did today:

6:15

wake up

6:30-7:30

attempt to do Women of the Bible study,

do weekly meal plan, to do list and grocery shopping list

drink coffee and talk with husband

7:30-8:00

 get on computer, check blog, email and Ebay stuff

8:00-8:30

fix breakfast for little ones, clean up kitchen and scrub kitchen floor,

8:30-9:00

 get Grace and Liz dressed, hair fixed, sort clothes for laundry and start first load

explain English assignment to Jennifer

9:00-9:30

 shower and get ready

9:30

load everyone in van and drive to Jen's clarinet lesson

10:00

while Jen is at lesson, run to grocery store

10:45

 home from lesson, unload groceries and put away

help direct children to studies/quiet activities

11:00-11:45

prepare lunch and finish cleaning kitchen

switch laundry

12:00-12:30

eat lunch, and read a few blogs

12:30

put Grace down for nap and

do lunch dishes

12:45

start afternoon of schooling

this afternoon Jennifer finished her math,

Liz worked on her math, writing and reading,

I also did a Bible lesson with them on the Good Samaritan.

1:15-3:00

spent this time teaching Jennifer how to conduct a science experiment using the scientific method of (question, hypothesis,methods, results and conclusion).  She put together a Lab Notebook, to keep records of all of her

science experiments.

3:00-3:30

talked with husband, cleaned up school stuff

and switching laundry

3:30-4:00

got children engaged in next activity

put chicken legs and potatoes in oven to bake

4:00-5:00

went to exercise place and walked two and a half miles

5:00-6:00

reviewed mail

finished making dinner,

provided more instructions to children,

made sure husband wasn't injured after falling from roof of house

while putting up christmas lights.

6:00-6:30

dinner

6:30-7:30

clean up from dinner

give girls bath, put last load of laundry in dryer

7:30

started writing this blog

9:00-9:30

bedtime routines and bedtime

They are busy days, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.  I enjoy writing my blog, and have no intentions of closing it down.  I just feel bad when time doesn't allow me to write an entry.  I'm very committed to walking fifteen-seventeen miles a week.  I believe it is the only way for me to get and stay healthy.  This takes some of my "free" time up. Another benefit for me walking is that I have time to read while on the treadmill.  I usually go to bed at the same time as my children.  If I get them to bed earlier than I enjoy talking to my husband and reading.  Last year I stayed up late blogging and reading blogs, but I was crabby the next day.  I don't want to get like that again.  EVER!   I need my sleep (8-10 hours) every night.

So, when do you find time to blog?  I was reading Preschoolers and Peace's blog.  She types all of her entries out on Sunday afternoon.  Which is a great idea.  She is a fountain of very useful information.

Again, I'd love to hear your ideas.  I won't let blogging go, like I let cross-stitch go.  It is one of my creative outlets, plus I enjoy the fellowship with all of you sweet ladies.  I also want to get back into scrapbooking, too.  I just need to find the right fit in our life.  I remain in prayer about this.

~~~~~Seeking His wisdom for what is best with all of you,
as we serve our families and our Lord with love and thankfulness,
Linda
"Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father."
 Colossians 3:16-17
I had just checked in on you earlier tonight to see if you had written a new entry. I am glad you are back. Your days do sound busy and you sound like you are quite a bit more organized then I am. I start laundry and then forget. I remember when my husband asks if we have clean socks anywhere. I am sidetracked all the time.
Do you have a treadmill? I started a walking program several summers ago. All was well until winter hit. We have already had snow and ice this year, I know I won't be walking again until the spring. I still can't figure out how I got to Minnesota. I hate winter ~ oh yes, now I remember, I love my husband!
I'm a new blogger here at Homeschool Blogger, but just wanted to say "wow!" - it is just incredible what you can fit in a day when you are a homeschooling mother!
You've spurred me on too - I was walking diligently right throughout most of this year & have slackened off the past few months.
Cheers,
Cate
My blogging is as random as it gets! I started out blogging every single day and then I got down to only once a week. I started to wish that I was doing more (because I don't really keep a journal) but time is hard to come by around here as well. I hope it will work out for you to fit it in easier...
Tuesday, November 14, 2006 - Great post
Posted by HarmonyArtMom
I enjoyed reading your daily routine with interest. I agree that we need to take care of ourselves physically as mothers, we always seem to come last. I realized a few years ago that I am not being selfish by taking care of myself physically. I need to exercise and get my parts moving at least four times a week. For me that is walking on the treadmill about 30 minutes at a time. The children have all learned to encourage me in this because they know it makes me so much happier about myself and that I feel better when I do it regularly. I commend you for making it a priority in your life too.
I do mulitple blog entries at a time too. I try to post three blog entries a week so I have scheduled Thursday afternoons to write two blog entries...one for Friday and one for Monday and then I write one blog entry on Tuesday to post on Wednesday. It really works for me to do it that way. If I have an inspiration in between for a blog topic I will at least get it started and then finish it at my alloted time during the week.
Thanks for sharing,
Barb
Tuesday, November 14, 2006 - blogging
I too, love to blog, but lately have just enjoyed reading others'. I have a lot of things to write about, and feel that when the time comes, I will have pages and pages.
Most of the time I get up at 4am. I make hubby's lunch. Read Bible, read blogs, e mail, Then, I either go to the gym, shower, or take a nap, depending on which day it is. Sometimes I go to the gym at 9am. It really depends on the day and what is going on. I also have older children who can help with lunch,dinner, chores, reading,etc. Plus we have been packing, showing our house and keeping it very clean. Whew, I'm tired just writing about all this. I really like the idea of writing one day a week. Maybe I will try that. Hope that you find the groove that fits you and your family's needs.
I think we all go through our seasons. I used to be EXTREMELY faithful to my blogging, then when things became hectic during last spring and summer, I basically neglected my blog as well. Then, as I was reading through old entries and savoring the memories yesterday, I decided that I need to make the time to do this again. Things WILL wax and wane. Don't beat yourself up about it. Just do what you determine to be best for you and your precious family. :)
You are doing a GREAT job at blogging. I forget now where I "found" you ... probably looking at someone's friends list ... but I keep you on my blogs I like to read list because you don't always write something new each day.
sound funny?
I like to mull over what the few people on my blog list have to say ... see if Father is challenging me to change my habits, or way of thinking or offering me an answer to a prayer I have recently prayed.
Your blog has stirred my heart many times in many different ways, and I have only been here for a couple of months.
I am blogging mostly every day for a number of reasons:
1. avoiding what I am SUPPOSED to be doing ( laundry, dusting )
2. I am an artist ( singer, songwriter,guitar player, poet, altered artist, lino-cutter and an English Major ... If I don't create, I feel it )
3. blogging has really lightened my spirits ... noticed by my friends, husband and kids
4. I write when I have an idea that has seemed to solidify itself in my brain, so it does not take me more than 10 minutes to blog
I trust Father will tell you what He has in mind for your blog ... every one is so different ... I love that! Keep asking Him, and He will show you what to write and when. You will feel it in your spirit. maybe you need change nothing.
Wednesday, November 15, 2006 - Honestly?
Posted by EEEEMommy
I blog when I should be doing other things.
I've never been good at journalling and am hopelessly behind on my scrapbooks, so blogging is the one thing that helps me keep a record of what's going on in my life, head, and heart.
I do need to find the balance though between doing the things that I need to be doing and blogging.
You're not alone!
Another thing though, we haven't yet jumped into outside activities like we were involved in before our move. We're taking things very slow, which does give me more time, and also means I'm feeling lonely more often. I imagine that when our activity level increases and I have more face-to-face friends, the blogging will be neglected more.
Family should always come before blogging. And you are very wise to consider your words. Sometimes I type to fast and don't think enough.
Praying you have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.
Hi Linda,
I've really cut back my blogging time, too. I also stayed up late reading so many blogs. It was crazy. Now I either blog or read blogs, but not both.
I type really fast and it doesn't take me long to add an entry. I don't have deep or philosophical thoughts and probably not much in depth either LOL. But I do blog about our life and ramble on. I seem to be hit or miss. I either add 3 or 4 entries a day or nothing for days on end. I do miss visiting others blogs and commenting more. If HSB is loading slowy, then I just forget it all together lol.
Have a great weekend~Kelly
Wow-that does sound like a very full day! You got a lot done.
Lately, my blogging has been sporadic, too. I'm having difficulty finding time to do it as well. So, I just blog when I feel like it-mostly so I don't forget special things.
I always did it in the morning before, but now I am walking the treadmill while doing devotions and praying in the morning. I pray much longer when I'm walking and it's more meaningful, too.
So, my blogging time has been less. Thanks for your comment the other day! Holly
I agree, I spent alot of time blogging or reading or looking at pitures on others blogs. I am working on having a set time on the computer and then getting back to real life. Today, however I am over that time LOL. But I was up at 5:15 walked to Curves, exercised and walked home. I even had my Bible time before the computer. So now I guess I should go do something worth while ; )
My blog time is usually after the kids go to sleep in the evening, or when Emily is at figure skating lessons. Jeremy takes the boys with him to the rink and I get some time alone.
THat time thing looks like a good way to analyze how well you're using your time.
