Plugging Along....
I'm feeling like I should apologize for being a infrequent blogger. I am a mom on a mission. Getting schooling done each day. Staying off the computer is key to me staying in the school day. So no new post during the week. I've also been trying to play games and read more with the children in the evening.
Then there is the planning for the next school year. That is beginning for all of us. I'm a little reluctant to get to far into planning before Jen takes her Iowa Basic Skills Test. But I prayerfully have started put together what our next year will look like. We will start with our "new" books as soon as we complete these books. I'm really excited about doing school all year around. Mainly because I will feel less pressure when we have those lag times.
February was a terrible lag time for me. I couldn't get motivated to do anything. All of my 2007 goals flew out the window. I didn't exercise, I didn't eat healthy, I rarely read my bible. School happened but it wasn't as productive as it could have been. Thankfully we've moved past the month of February. And although March came in like a lion, it is moving a long like a lamb.
We've started doing this bible study each morning:

I've enjoyed being a Precept Bible Study leader and these studies are perfect for digging into the word. It is rewarding to listen to Elizabeth be able to answer the questions as read the passages. There is a companion study for adults that is great, too.
I've gotton many great ideas from my friend Jessica(Trivium Academy). Two of them I implemented with Elizabeth this week. First I choose ten of our books that are easy readers. I made a computer checklist with the titles. Then each day after we completed our reading lessons. She picked and read two of them. Next week we'll begin her doing writing the title, author and a brief narration. I'm going to give her the option of drawing and verbally this, or writing her narration.
Then we've begun doing this workbook~

Great book, she is really learning a lot.
It has been hard to do much with our nature studies. I got these books:

The girls enjoy reading these. Jen's done her reading independently, and usually ends up reading more than I've assigned for the day. I bought several Dover coloring books to trace and color. I'll share more of these next week.
We're looking forward to Spring, and getting outside to resume our nature walks. I took the girls to story time at the library on Wednesday. Once the weather gets warm, after story time we'll go to various parks for our nature walks and lunch.
We are all dreaming of spring and summer. Grace insists that it is time to go camping. Today she's been demanding that we go on Wednesday. Liz and Grace have been preparing for tornado drills. They play tornado and hide in their pretend basement under blankets. Here they are, after I pulled the blankets off of them.

We've been prayerfully considering buying a new video camera this week. My husband has spent hours researching which one to buy. In the process we got out our old camera and watched old videos of Liz as a baby. Jen as a four and five year old. They grow up to quick. It made me spend more time hugging and talking with them about the important things the Lord has for them.
Next week I'm getting up and getting moving! Hold me to that.
Enjoy your weekend being a blessing and being blessed,
~~~~worshiping Him in spirit and truth,
Linda
you have been busy, but a good busy. I love when school just keeps plugging along. I started getting a little antsy about not feeling like doing school, but now things are going a little better.
We LOVE Kay Arthur studies. My girls are just about grown out of those, but they love them so much, we just keep doing them. I even learn some great stuff from them.
Just start where you are and move forward.
February is always my worst homeschooling month, always filled with the winter blahs but this will soon be replaced with spring energy and life. We actually cut the grass today! My daffodils are in full bloom, my tulips are showing their color, and the birds are very active. I just know the downhill slide is in motion towards summer.
Have a great week,
Barb
Good for you on the bible study. We have used Kay Arthur's studies for kids for the last couple of years with Chaya and really like them. I myslef have done her adult study of Hebrews, spiritual warfare and am just now finishing up Daniel. I highly recommend them to everyone.
I agree with you on the computer time messing up teh school day. I am coming to understand just how much Satan using it to keep me from God and my family. Having said that I should get off! LOL Have a wonderful day.
