~Show N' Tell Friday~

Posted in Celebrations

Today for my show n' tell I'm featuring something I did today.  Our garden is bountiful!

This morning I picked this basket of cucumbers

And then made these...

Bread and Butter Pickles

This is my second try at preserving anything.  Two years ago I made pickle relish and canned it.  I fretted about the jars sealing and tasting good when people actually ate it.  I vowed then that I would let my mom do all of the canning.

But I got a mix from Walmart that is made by Ball.  These are refrigerator so I didn't have to put them in a canner and make sure they seal.  I wanted to wait more towards the end of August so we could eat them on Thanksgiving.  They are only good for three months.  Our cucumbers were gettting bigger and it was time.

great!!! How fun. I just canned some green beans and had fun with it. Your pickles look yummy.

I used to make a yummy zucchini relish. I may have to pull that out and order some from our local veggie stand.

Have a great weekend.

Your garden looks wonderful and so does those cucumbers!!!! What a blessing! The pickles look delish as well. I am envious. The heat has really affected our garden this year, despite our attempts to keep it watered, so my cucumbers didn't do well at all. I love to can, but this year I just didn't get enough produce to do that. What did produce was just enough to keep us eating them fresh.

Hugs,
Donna

If I ever get any produce out of the garden I will have to learn how to can it! I didn't get my stuff into the garden until May so I guess it will take awhile longer still.

Yum! I'm a bit jealous since I didn't get any garden planted and NO canning done :( Oh well...in His timing.

I'm making pickles, too. Although, I am using a recipe from my mil for green sweet pickles. (I'm gonna leave the green food coloring out, though). This is my first time making it and from start to finish, it takes about two weeks... whew! Not hard work, just putsy.

Warmly, ~Melissa

Wow! those are huge. My mom cut them down to the bread and butter size, they have in the store's. I like your better & looks even more inviting too. So, have you tried them yet or waiting a little longer?
