~Tightwad Tuesday~

Join Mary and other bloggers at CanadaGirl to participate & read Tightwad Tuesday entries.
I am not a Tightwad by nature, I'm a spender! I've always loved sales, but I think a sale just gives me the opportunity to have more money to spend.
When I married my husband 10 years ago, this changed. He is a tightwad by nature. I've had to readjust a lot of my thinking and I am grateful for the Lord's contentment in this area. But I still have a long way to go. We do not live within a budget. We pay the bills and then I spend whatever is left for our groceries, etc. I pray and think about what I'm going to spend, and I make a menu. But I don't prepare food or buy groceries with a frugal mind. I rarely say no, to my desires for things like junk food or pop. I know that this is an area that the Lord wants me to grow.
Books are another area where I struggle. I love books, bibles, bible studies, more books and well you get the point. I have had to really come into submission to the Lord and my husband in my book spending. My husband is very gentle in telling me enough is enough. Right now I am towards the end of a book buying fast. I may sound ridiculous but this has been very hard for me. I am longing for Suzy's Andrea Carter series and a copy of The Handbook of Nature.
In the middle of all of this longing, and the point of my Tightwad entry, I've come to really enjoy a free magazine. I've received this magazine for about 18 years. But this winter I've really read it, and enjoyed it. I've also used it as our homeschool devotional. It is free from Dr. Stanley's In Touch ministries. Just click the cover to order your own free copy and read past issues. It will not disappoint you.

~~That He may increase and I may decrease,
Linda

Spending money on books is my big downfall too. I love to read and I like to have my own copy of a book. I have really tried to cut down on my spending on books lately. It has been hard on me also!

Thank you for sharing about your freebie and the idea that a fast could be something different than food. Because of our financial means I have had to be creative from the start. I think if I was in a situation of having more ...I would be a spender. [0; I try to stretch other areas so I CAN spend on books and other fun things. [0= But I am learning more and more to stay with in our means.
Thank you for sharing my SSiC. <><

I love Dr. Charles Stanley, what a great mind and someone especially used in the Kingdom.
I love books too! But I am loving free books by trading on bookmooch.com too. Sometimes it's hard to give up a book, but after awhile I wondered why I felt so attached.
I have a tightwad tip in mind, but no time!
Thanks again for the very very sweet email :)

It's hard when there is so much tempting junk food at our reach. I know that I too struggle with keeping food costs low.
Blessings to you, Mama Karen

You should try paperbackswap! I did a post recently about all of the books I have received from paperbackswap in the last four months. it was shocking even to me! You can find it under the Great Deals category if it is not on my main page anymore. As I have purposed to live within my budget and honor my husband in this area (new for us this last year) God has blessed me with many of the items on my Wish List. It is a lifelong struggle though I think. I still mess up, because new books are soooo tempting. You are not alone :)
