~Nature Walk~August 31st
One of my goals this school year is to have actual nature study time. We have done some nature walks and when the weather is good we enjoy getting outside to walk. But I have lacked planning and preparation about actually studying the nature we observe. While we were out exploring nature today the girls were asking more questions and really acted interested in studying what they saw. We will start with tree identification and have a good grasp on it by the time winter hits. Winter in Iowa is a great time to identify animals by their tracks in the snow and put out bird feeders for our feathered friends.
In Iowa the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa State Extension site both have excellent resources on tree identification. Two links are these pdf files..Identifying Hardwood Trees in Iowa and Identifying Conifer Trees in Iowa.
Our nature walk today was at Racoon River Park, it is a busier park than I really like for our nature studies. I think we will stick with our usual park Yellow Banks, it is more tranquil.

Hi, Linda,
Thanks so much for your lunch offer. That's very sweet of you and I would LOVE to meet you and your family too. Annette, would love to be surrounded my girls. LOL. Unfortunately we won't be able to make it :( dh and I have tried to figure out a way to make it out but since he has already made all the reservations we have to get to our hotel in Mt. Rushmore, plus halfway through we will most likely stay at a truck stop and rest for a few hours in our car. Yikes! My family and I will probably look pretty scary. LOL.
Again, thank you so much for offering. I'm honored that you even thought to invite us.
Blessings,
Linda<><

It was so good to be able to read & catch up on your blog. I have missed keeping up with you all. The girls are growing so much. Hopefully, I will get to visit more. Traci

Ahh...my reader didn't pick up your recent post but I'm glad that the Lord placed it on my heart to stop by and visit you!!
Loved your nature walk :) We are starting school on Tuesday and I've been swamped to say the least with preparations. (We made a curricula change and I'm trying to adjust.)
My girls should be back in the swing of writing better and we hope that we can continue building our friendships in the upcoming school year.
You are a treasured friend!

We got a book for Christmas about Nature in Minnesota... I had hoped to use it for the same thing. But, so far our nature walks have been pretty unplanned to. Why? Well, I got the book for Christmas and now I have no earthly idea where it is.
I need a little better system of organization.
