~Show N' Tell Friday~

Posted in Celebrations

This week I wanted to show n' tell our tea time, but Monday left me to wiped out to.  I spent Tuesday catching up on school work after character issues on Monday.  Next though I'll share it!

For this week I'm going to share a beautiful statue that my husband brought back from Africa.

It is hand-carved, my husband purchased it from the gentleman who made it.  He paid $2, a small bottle of hand soap, a cheap pocket knife, and a package of gum for this.  He carried it in his back pack, wrapped in a sweat shirt on the 26 hour plane ride home.

~~Show N' Tell Friday~~

Posted in Celebrations

I'm showing and telling about my Grandmother's tea pot.

This tea is filled with great memories of tea time at Grandma's house.  She always had tea for us in the early afternoon, usually with cookies.  I've had this for a long time, but we will never use it.  The paint is chipping away and it is fragile.

We are going to begin tea time on Tuesday's starting next week.  I'm planning on us going through this bible study:
Fruit of the Spirit Teas Bible StudyI hope to put fresh flowers in our teapot.

I'm not much of a tea connoisseur, I would be grateful for any suggestions of types of tea that your family has enjoyed.

~~looking forward to reading your Show n' Tell's,

Blessings,

Linda

~Great New Online Community~

Posted in Celebrations

Many of you have already discovered this great new homeschooling moms newsletter and community.  I just got done reading the newest edition.  Of course I was thrilled to see an article explaining Governor Huckabee's homeschooling laws.  It looks like a lot of great fun and support. There is a forum and meme's too.  I'm looking forward to participating in it.

Just click the image above

See you there,
Linda

*~*Happy New Year*~*

Posted in Celebrations

We are enjoying a relaxing start to the New Year. Actually that is what I would label our holiday season as, relaxing. We’ve been on break since December 20nd, and it has been relaxing. Perhaps a little to relaxed! But we are enjoying this time and I’ve not remembered a time where we all smiled and laughed more.

We will be resuming schooling soon. I can’t seem to pinpoint a date, I’m just not ready to "hit" the books.

Today’s plans...

*For lunch-snacking...cheese, sausage, and crackers, popcorn, little smokies in BBQ-sauce, chips & dip, veggies & dip, and cut up oranges.

*Blog my 2008 Goals & Dreams list.

*Blog my 2008 Wish-to-Read list...this will include books for the girls.

*Plan to-do list for the rest of the week.

*Scrapbook 1 page. More about that in my goals blog post.

*Work on "Little Women" literature study and homeschool planning in general.

*Dinner Menu..

~Ham Balls

~Scalloped Potatoes

~Green Bean Casserole

~Rolls and Butter

~Praying that your New Year blesses you with happiness and good health and is  prosperous, being filled with His grace, love and mercy,

Linda

~Friday Show N' Tell~

Posted in Celebrations

This week I'm sharing a recipe that I made for our Christmas dinner.
I actually was reminded how much I love this dessert salad this summer.  We had a potluck at work and someone brought it in.  Later in the week I was cleaning out some stuff and came upon my Grandmother's handwritten copy of it.

~Strawberry Pretzel Salad~
It is made in steps so takes a little bit of time.

Ingredients:
2 Cups Crushed Pretzels

1/4 cup Sugar

1 1/2 sticks Butter Melted
Mix and Spread in buttered 9x12 pan

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.  Then let cool.

Next Layer

1- 8 ounce pakcage of softened cream cheese

1 cup sugar

2 cups of Cool Whip

Mix and spread over cooled crust

Last Layer
This layer could be made while the crust is cooling.
2-10 ounce packages frozen strawberries(sliced in food processor)

2 cups pineapple juice

2-3 ounce packages of strawberry jello

Heat pineapple juice and use to dissolve jello.  Add strawberries and let set until soupy.

Then pour over top and let set for 3 hours or overnight.

Ta Da!

This is delicious, we enjoy it a lot!

~~Christmas~~

Posted in Celebrations

Merry Christmas---2007 Christmas is almost completed, and it has been lovely!  Today has been a quiet day of just our immediate family.  I awoke at 4 am, and got up to finish putting out the presents.  Then just sat, enjoyed my coffee and read a little from my Bible.  At 5 am there was a TV special that I watched, it was an old show from our childhood, shown only in the Des Moines area.  Then the girls got up and saw their "Santa" gifts.  I believe that we are winding down our Santa time in this house.  He has taken a back seat to the birth of Christ this year.

Grace loved all of her presents.  With every gift she opened she would exclaim "oh, it's what I've always wanted".

Elizabeth got an I-dog.

Jennifer looked through everything today for a cell phone.  Nope, no cell phones.

Jennifer reading Luke 2.

We enjoyed a great breakfast of cinnamon rolls, egg casserole, biscuits and gravy, bacon and sausage.  In this house I make a lot of food because everyone's palate is a little different, plus lately I am enjoying cooking.

Then we prayed and opened more presents.

I got a wonderful laptop cooling pad, laptop desk, and an Amazon gift certificate.

Grace got the Rose Petal Cottage, I really  thought she would play with it today.  Instead she played all afternoon with the horse stable set with got Liz.

All Elizabeth wanted was a camera.  This looked a lot better in the package, we are going to try and exchange it.  She was thrilled, but it's picture quality if poor.

Jennifer opening her video camera.

Poor Belle, she isn't feeling so hot these days.  We had thought about breeding her.  She is now in season, which has made her sad and tired.  We put a little diaper on her, which just annoys her. She mostly mopes around or sleeps.  I did get her to play ball for a little bit, but then she just sat and whined when it went farther then she wanted to run.  Silly puppy!

This afternoon we had a large dinner, although again not everyone ate everything from this menu.  In fact Grace had a "chicken patty", crackers and rolls.

My husband smoked a turkey. I made mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole, broccoli salad, relish tray with dip, strawberry-pretzel salad, rolls. Plus we had a cheese ball, cheese, and sausage with crackers earlier.  Jennifer and my husband had made a birthday cake for Jesus, but we were all to full to eat it.  I like to make a Red Velvet cake with white frosting for Christmas.

Lastly---please pray for one of my HSB friends MishinIA.  She has developed a terrible infection and is in serious condition in the hospital.  You can read about it here:
Please Pray!

And as Mary did I will be pondering these days in my heart and as the shepherds I desire to glorify and praise God for all that He continually does in our lives.

~~Held fast in His loving arms of grace, mercy and faithful love,

Linda

~~Show N' Tell Friday~~

Posted in Celebrations

My Show N' Tell this week is a ceramic Santa Claus made by one of my Grandmothers.  This is not the Grandmother that I mentioned in Grace's birthday post.  This was made by my biological father's mother, she has been dead for many years.  She loved doing ceramics, and had made this Santa Claus for my mother.  I get it out and cherish it every year.  My husband makes fun of it, saying Santa Claus's aren't pink.  But for me it is partly about the memories.  He used to wind-up and play a song, but that is broke.

It isn't that he is pretty, but he holds special memories for me.

~~I'm in the memory making business,

I'm a mom,

Linda
