Mythology
We are going to do a lot of reading up on mythology. I want the kids to be able to recognize a good story when they see one. (in other words, I want them to be able to see that bible stories are just that. STORIES) I got 4 books from the library. Three of them are exactly what I wanted. They include bible stories in their list of myths. I love how they handle it. It's perfect.
What are the books you ask?
In the Beginning: Creation Stories from Around the World  Told by Virginia Hamilton
Mythology of the World  By Neil Philip
The last one is a DK Eyewitness Book with the title of Mythology.  At the bottom is says "Discover the captivating stories told by different cultures to explain the mysteries of our world."  I love it because that is exactly how we have tried to explain religion to our children.

I also got The Illustrated Book of Myths: Tales & Legend of the World  retold by Neil Philip  It is also a good book, but doesn't have the bible included like the others.

The difference in the "Bible stories" vs. mythology is that the stories in the Bible actually happened. The other difference in reading the Bible is that it introduces you to the one true God, who created this world and created the minds of all of those who made up the myths in the first place. They have chosen to create creatures and idols that can please their flesh, so they don't have to live in obedience to the true God.

If you don't believe in God who do you go to for help in times of trouble? Who do you find peace in when life is hard? Who do you praise when you see a newborn baby? Who do you praise when you see a beautiful sunrise over the mountain tops? Just curious.
I can absolutely promise you that harry potter won't care what's going on in your life and neither will any other paegan entity. But God created you and loves you and is waiting for your eyes to be opened to the lies that you're believing.
Don't be mad about what I'm saying. If you're troubled by my words then seek the truth for yourself. If God is not real, then you have nothing to worry about. If God is real, you have everything to gain.

We are new to homeschooling. Why are we homeschooling? Because we want to be able to put our family first. Bringing our oldest DD home and keeping the other two home is a great place to start.
