Happy New Year!

I love the last day of the year, as It means tomorrow will be the start of a brand spanking new year! I also quite like the ring of two-thousand-and-seven! I was saying to hubby "Do you realize that 7 is 'God's number?.... and we're just about to finish 'Man's number'!" ( the 6 in 2006!) He was wondering were I was going with this one!

"I think....... being God's number and all, .................we're in for a GREAT year!" He just nodded! I know he was thinking to himself  'What's with this woman?"

Well, that's just me..... I enjoy pondering on such things!

This morning we decided to pay a visit to another church, and we all loved it! The praise and worship was exactly like Hillsong's and the preaching was 'the WORD!" Very bible based! I thought the kids might be a little upset, but when they saw the skateboarding ramps and the fantastic youth center, they were in awe, and assured me that they would enjoy church here!!!!!

Anyway....... I need to go and prepare for the braai tonight!

A very Happy New Year to all!

To Christmas Tree or Not......that is the question!

This morning I had a Homeschooling-Mamma-friend over for tea. I have known her for two years and did not know that her family does not celebrate christmas. I did notice that she paid no attention to the beautiful Christmas Tree (my humble opinion!) or any of the other Christmas goodies decorating the house! In conversation I asked her what she was doing for Christmas...... and she replied "We don't celebrate Christmas, but we will be spending the family day with my Mom and Dad." She went on to say that they consider the 25th Dec to be a pagan festival and therefore don't make a big deal of it! .

I was a little gobsmacked! I suppose firstly, because she is my friend and I had not known this about her. Secondly, I felt a little sad for her three kids not experiencing the fun of decorating the tree and thirdly I felt challenged to do a little research on the topic!

I was aware that their is no evidence that Christ was born on the 25th and I did know that the tree, mistletoe and other decorations were pagan symbols, but I didn't know that the 25th Dec was actually celebrated by the pagans as the birthday of the Sun God, Mithra.I went on the internet and read how pagans(wicans) TODAY, celebrate Yule by lighting candles, decorating trees, giving presents etc!

It's made me think........ why do I not celebrate Halloween, yet Christmas is okay? Both festivals have pagan roots! Hmmmmmmmmmm................ I need to get my head around this!

Here's some food for thought!

Hope this isn't TOO much of a heavy on ya all! I do welcome any thoughts or revelations on this topic!

Slippers for the discrete lady!

I was browzing the net trying to find christmas Crafts and I came across THIS..................I mean really!

Maxi-Pad Slippers

This is a fun gag gift! Follow these free instructions and you can make slippers using maxi-pads - submitted by Twinrme1.

Materials Needed:

  • 4 Maxi-Pads
  • Tape or Glue
  • Items to Embellish

Instructions:
You need four maxi pads to make a pair of slippers. Two of them get laid out flat in front of you, for the sole of the foot. The other two wrap around the toe area to form the top odf the slipper. Tape or glue each side of the top pieces to the bottom of the foot part.

Now you have a pair of slippers you can embellish. Decorate the tops with whatever you desire, charms, beads, silk flowers, etc.

You can attach a gift card to your slippers with these descriptions:

  • Slippers for the descrete woman.
  • Soft and hygenic.
  • Non-slip grip strips on the soles.
  • Built in deodorant feature to keep feet smelling fresh.
  • No more bending over to mop up spills.
  • Disposable, biodegradable, and environmentally safe.
  • Comes in 3 convenient sizes: Regular, Light day, and SUPER Absorbant.

- See a larger photo of this craft completed by Twinrme1

Please let me know if any one attempts this!!!!!LOL!
