Spring Break? Anyone!

Well.. I don't know about you, but I sure needed Spring Break this year.

It seemed like I was on input overload.  I couldn't catch my breath!

Have you ever felt like that?  We took a few days off and just spent it leisurely.  The girls got a brand new swing set from their Poppa and they've really enjoyed it.

We went to the new Sea World water park and animal park it was so cool you really get to interact much more with the animals and the girls loved that.

We also went to the Jacksonville Zoo together and I think, I enjoyed this more than they did.  Of course the girls liked all the gooey treats.

I hope everyone had a blessed Easter with family and friends.

Florida Governor Declares Home Educators Week~

Florida: Governor Declares Home Education Week March 30-April 6

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends

Good news! Governor Charlie Crist has declared March 30-April 6 to be
Home Education Week in Florida! This is the second year in a row that
Governor Crist has issued a homeschool proclamation.

Regina Hicks of Florida Parent Educators Association (FPEA) and
Kendall Hicks of the Christian Home Educators of the Sunshine State
(CHESS) contacted the governor's office to secure this proclamation,
making some additions from last year.

We recommend all homeschoolers in Florida to widely distribute this
proclamation and celebrate homeschooling during the designated week!

To review or print the proclamation go to
http://www.hslda.org/hs/state/fl/FL_proclamation_08.pdf .

Trinity Foundation's Fourth Annual Essay Contest

The Trinity Foundation's Fourth Annual Christian Worldview Essay Contest is
underway. The topic book for the Contest this year is Freedom and
Capitalism: Essays on Christian Politics and Economics by John W. Robbins.
This is a collection of essays that demonstrates the Biblical foundation for
liberty -- both in politics and in economics.
In our society today, we have abdicated our Biblical responsibilities and
have let the government take more and more of our liberties away, often with
our consent. Freedom and Capitalism is a reminder that we are to conform all
our thinking, including our thinking on government and economics, to the
written revelation of God in the Bible.

The Essay Contest is open to those 17 to 23 years of age. Cash prizes are
awarded for the top three essays -- $3,000 for first prize, $2,000 for
second, and $1,000 for third. The complete rules and entry form may be found
at our website or by clicking on the links. If you are eligible, please
enter the contest. If you are too old, please urge your children and
grandchildren to enter.

Miller Pads and Paper

Miller Pad and Paper is coming to our February Mid County Support
meeting! Please note that this particular meeting will be held on
Monday February 4th
from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

If you are looking for ways to make learning fun by combining art and
hands-on activities with core subjects, this workshop is for you. Renee
Miller will share many ideas and examples that she rarely gets to
finish! She will also teach art basics, in hopes of dispelling the fear
that often grips young moms and keeps them from enjoying art in their
homes with their children.

We will be sure to allow time for questions and answers at the end and
each guest will receive a thank-you gift and an outline of the workshop
that will prove valuable later. While children are welcome, this
workshop is geared to adults (a talk, not a hands on art class).

Don't forget to also sign up for the Barry Stebbing Art Classes.
Renee Miller, of Miller Pad and Paper, will be selling the supplies
needed for the Barry Stebbing Classes. There will be time for shopping
after the session.
