Annual Homeschool Orientation Meeting
The Broward Christian Homeschoolers (BCH) is once again hosting its annual South-Florida Homeschool Orientation Meeting, which is intended for families new to homeschooling, veteran homeschoolers and those interested in learning more about home education.
This year's theme is "Getting Started and Staying on Track".
The annual South-Florida Homeschool Orientation Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, August 5, 2006, 9:00AM - 5:00PM, and will be held at First Baptist Church of West Hollywood, 1708 North 60th Avenue, Hollywood, Florida 33021 (just north of the intersection at State Road 7 [441] and Taft Street).

9:30 - 10:30 Florida Homeschool Law (John Kernohan, FPEA)
10:30 - 11:15 Record Keeping & Portfolios (Robin Martin, BCH)
11:15 - 12:00 Homeschooling or Homeschooling at Home (Valerie Bendt)
12:00 - 12:45 Lunch
1:00 - 1:45 Is there a Right Curriculum? (Doreen Morgan)
2:00 - 2:45 High School (Jan Prentice)

This year's orientation meeting will feature recognized home education experts, authors, speakers and local homeschool leaders such as Valerie Bendt, Doreen Morgan, Bryan Davis, Robin Martin, Jan Prentice and John Kernohan.
Individual workshops will be provided on the laws to homeschooling, portfolios, record keeping, high school, curriculum, and much more.
Information and representatives of the Christian Homeschool Athletic Association (CHAA SAINTS), South-Florida Home Education Athletic Team (SF HEAT), the HIS Players Drama Troupe, the Sunshine Learning Center, the Kiwanis' South-Florida Homeschool Key Club, and the Florida Parent Educators Association (FPEA) will be on hand.
Various curriculum vendors and resource companies, including Bright Minds, Faithful Book Shop and others, will be in attendance and displaying their materials and services geared towards homeschooling.
Various door prizes have been donated by Rock Solid, Bonnet House, Bright Minds, Flamingo Gardens, Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Bright Ideas Press and others.
There is no cost to attend this orientation, which is open to the public. Also, the South-Florida Christian Homeschool Prom Committee will be selling lunch as a fund raiser for this year's homeschool prom.
