Annual Homeschool Orientation Meeting
The Broward Christian Homeschoolers (BCH) will once again be hosting its
annual South-Florida Homeschool Orientation Meeting*, which is intended for
families new to homeschooling, veteran homeschoolers and those interested in
learning more about home education. This year's theme is "Getting Started
and Staying on Track".
The annual South-Florida Homeschool Orientation Meeting* is scheduled for
Saturday, August 5, 2006, 9:00AM - 5:00PM, and will be held at First Baptist
Church of West Hollywood, 1708 North 60th Avenue, Hollywood, Florida 33021
(the intersection of State Road 7 and Taft Street).

This year's orientation meeting will feature recognized home education
experts, authors, speakers and homeschool leaders such as Valerie Bendt,
Doreen Morgan, Bryan Davis, Robin Martin, Jan Prentice and John Kernohan.
Individual workshops will be provided on the laws to homeschooling,
portfolios, record keeping, high school, curriculum, and much more.
Information and representatives of the Christian Homeschool Athletic
Association (CHAA SAINTS), South-Florida Home Education Athletic Team (SF
HEAT), the HIS Players Drama Troupe, the Sunshine Learning Center, the
Kiwanis' South-Florida Homeschool Key Club, and the Florida Parent Educators
Association (FPEA) will be on hand.
Various curriculum vendors and resource companies, including Bright Minds,
Faithful Book Shop and others, will be in attendance and displaying their
materials and services geared towards homeschooling.
Various door prizes have been donated by Rock Solid, Bonnet House, Bright
Minds, Flamingo Gardens, Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Bright Ideas Press and
others.
There is no cost to attend this orientation, which is open to the public.
Also, the South-Florida Christian Homeschool Prom Committee will be selling
lunch as a fund raiser for this year's homeschool prom.

Hands-on Ancient History Class
Based on Susan Wise Bauer's History of the World
This interactive hands-on class is for 5th and 6th graders and will be
held at 8835 Larwin Lane, Orlando (off of University Blvd.). It will
meet on Wednesday mornings, mid-August through December and January
through April. Cost is $30 month and a one-time materials fee of $50.
Tammi Lanzi will be teaching the class. She has taught numerous classes
through Circle Christian School and has shown herself to be passionate,
interesting and motivating in the area of history. If you are

Valerie Bendt - Valerie and her husband, Bruce, have homeschooled
their six children all of their school lives. Valerie has written
the following books of interest to homeschoolers: How to Create Your

For the Love of Reading, Creating Books with Children, The Frances
Study Guide, Successful Puppet Making, Reading Made Easy, and Making

Doreen Morgan - By His grace, Doreen Morgan has been home educating
for over 14 years. Their family includes 3 children, two that are
already adults with a fabulous son-in-law and 3 precious
grandchildren. The last one to be home schooled is Faith Mae who is
perfecting her talents as a speaker as well as helping run the
family business. Owners of the Faithful Bookshop, a home school
store in Orlando, FL. the Morgans continue to serve hundreds of home
educators each year. By being exposed to thousands of home school
materials, both Doreen and her husband, Jeff, have learned that
sometimes the answers aren't always in a book! Their goal as a
family is to help parents share matters that speaks to the heart of
their children and encourage them in the pursuit of home education.

Bryan Davis - Bryan Davis is the author of the best-selling
Christian fantasy series, Dragons in our Midst, and several other
books for children and adults. He is a graduate of the University of
Florida, was valedictorian of his high school class, and was a
computer professional for over 20 years before becoming a full-time
author. Now living in Winter Park, Florida, with his wife, Susie,
and five of his seven children, Bryan enjoys running, tennis,
hiking, and Bible study. When he's not writing, he speaks to
thousands of students in schools all across the country, hoping to
inspire youth of all ages to become heroes and heroines for Christ.

We're trying to start a homeschool dance class at University Performing Arts
Centre in Oviedo. Beginning in August.
The class is an Intermediate combination of Tap, Jazz and Ballet for ages 5 to
7.
Day & Time: Tuesday at 11:00am
