Posted in General Florida Information

Champion Athletic Center in Apopka is accepting new registrations for the
upcoming school year. Classes will be held on Thursdays at 2 pm with class
lasting 50 minutes. At present, there is a class already established for
older girls and boys. There is a possibility of adding a class for younger
siblings, pre-k through Kindergarten, if there is enough interest.

These classes are recreational and can be a great way to have your
child/children participate in P.E. once a week. The classes promote
strength, flexibility, balance and co-ordination. If you have any interest
in joining the homeschool group please contact Amy or Ben Hazlerig at
407-880-5558 as soon as possible. The first class starts on August 3 at 2

A Reward for Service: The Presidential Freedom Scholarship
by Roxana Hadad

Don't look now, but all those hours you've put in as a volunteer in
your community haven't gone unnoticed. Thanks to students like you,
volunteer work has made huge improvements in communities and people's
lives across the nation. And, it seems, the good deeds will be
rewardedwith a bonus of financial aid.

Truly Rewarding Work

The Presidential Freedom Scholarship is a program dedicated to
recognizing and rewarding the great job students are doing to improve
our neighborhoods and towns.

Through the program, outstanding student volunteers receive awards of
$1000, provided jointly by the Corporation for National Service and
the recipient's community. Supporters of the award have included the
Elks, Lions, Boys and Girls Clubs, Kiwanis, Moose, Rotary, PTAs, the
Links, Dollars for Scholars and the Miss America Organization.

But that's not allrecipients also receive an award certificate, a
letter from the President and a gold President's Student Service
Award pin.

Eligibility and Applications

The Presidential Freedom Scholarship is truly a community effort.
Educators in each district work with community leaders to decide how
to administer the award applications.

Because the program focuses on service, there is no minimum grade
point average. To be eligible you must:

Have contributed at least 100 hours of service to your community
within a 12-month period.
Be a high school junior or senior.
Attend a public, private, charter or parochial school within one of
the 50 states, the District of Columbia, a Native American tribe, a
U.S. territory or a Department of Defense school.
Plan to attend an institution of higher learning in the U.S.
Each high school in the country may select one junior or senior to
receive the award, based on their service record. The scholarship is
meant to "reward and encourage activities that have a significant
impact in meeting the needs of local communities." This includes:

Volunteerism in a community organization;
Service with a religious organization;
Work with a service-learning project; or
Individual efforts to improve the community.
Before you can be considered eligible, all volunteer activities must
be certified by your school principal and one member of the community
with whom you did volunteer work. Find out how your school will be
recording and certifying your volunteer hours to make sure you get
credit for your work.

With all the stuff you've got going on inside and outside of school,
you deserve a pat on the back for spending time giving back to your
community. Good job on your accomplishments and good luck!

A New Kid Safe Browser availabe for testing - Free

Posted in General Florida Information

Homeschool.com is in the process of having a new kid safe browser created for their use and has allowed homeschoolers around the world to test it out and see what you think.

Here is the website:
http://www.tuki.com/

If you would after trying it out send Rebecca
and comments you might have.

Here are few questions you might consider answering:

Is a kid-safe browser a good addition to Homeschool.com?

Q: Would you use it?

Q: I am particularly interested in the pen-pal feature.
I think this is a great way for homeschool children to
communicate with each other (a nice alternative to 'My
Space.'). Would your children use this feature?

We have asked the experts at Children's Educational Network and asked them to
create a kid safe browser especially for Homeschool.com designed to protect and
educate your children on the Internet. This will be ready in June, but we have
made special arrangements with Children's Educational Network to offer
Homeschool.com subscribers FREE access to their TUKI Kid Safe Browser so that
you can test it out and start protecting your children now, before our official
launch in June.

Recently, startling announcements have made national news (Dateline MSNBC) about
the dramatic increase of ONLINE PREDATORS and ONLINE PORNOGRAPHY! Experts
reported that there is as many as 50,000 child predators online at any given
moment and online porn sites have grown from 14 Million to OVER 400 Million
pages in the last 5 years!

'Even if you have another Internet filter you should take advantage of this
offer and claim your complimentary educational TUKI Kid Safe Browser and take it
for a test drive'

The kid safe browser and the basic safety features are 100% FREE no strings
attached, and it is easy to install and your children will love the fun cool
cartoon interface and all the child appropriate web sites.

There is a Premium Version called the TUKI Kids Club Membership that you may
want to sign up for right away. Summer is coming and this means that your
children will be spending more time on line. The TUKI Kids Club membership
includes: Safe Buddy List Email (this is the #1 Rated Feature and is great for
homeschooling pen pals!), Educational Content, Language Filters & Personal
Information Filters, Encouraging Words, Chore Reminders and much much more that
you join for small fee of $4.97 per month (that's less than $.17 cents a day).

As a special offering for Homeschool.com subscribers, when you sign up for the
Kids Club, you also receive:

Solutions For Families
24 Lessons To Strengthen Relationships At Home
204 Page Family-Strengthening Manual E-Book'
By Dr. Paula Fellingham

This NEW eBook has just recently been released and experts all over the world
are giving it high praises. So if YOU have children or grandchildren you must
take 10 minutes and claim your FREE Kid Safe & Educational Browser.

If You Want To.....

Protect Your Children Online

Offer Them a Fun Educational Internet Experience

Have Peace Of Mind & Not Worry About Your Children Online

Have Them Surf The Internet in An Educational Environment...

Then Claim Your Kid Safe & Educational Browser Today at: http://www.tuki.com/

Responsible parents and grandparents must take action to protect their children
from this major issue.

Thanks for testing out the TUKI Kid Safe browser. Please send your comments
to: Rebecca@Homeschool.com. We are very excited and we will let you know as soon
