Campaign Contributions & Candidate Positions

I recently posted that McCain is in favor of parental choice for vaccination (Age of Autism article referenced).

I received some more info from PROVE today, regarding candidate responses to the question of vaccine choice:

We continue to receive a number of requests for additional information in response to our newsletter on the presidential candidates’ health care plans. Most are requesting more information specifically on McCain's and Obama's position on vaccination and informed consent. The most specific information I could find appears in several Age of Autism newsletters. Moms that are very active in the autism community have been diligently asking for clarification of positions, on several issues, from both candidates.

Senator McCain did provide a response. It contains a statement in support of informed decisions and families being in charge of their health care. John McCain believes the key to health care reform is to restore control to the patients themselves. Families should be in charge of their health care…and have more control over care. In light of this, John McCain believes in the right for individuals and in the case of children, parents, to make informed health care decisions, and does not support pre-empting these prerogatives. The complete response from the campaign can be read at
http://www.ageofautism.com/2008/10/mccain-senior-p.html .

Senator Obama has not responded. He did however state to one of the mothers on September 5, 2008, "I am not for selective vaccination, I believe that it will bring back deadly diseases like polio". The newsletter regarding this encounter can be read at
http://www.ageofautism.com/2008/09/obama-i-am-not.html

An additional statement regarding attempts to get candidates to respond can be accessed at
http://www.ageofautism.com/2008/10/mccain-addresse.html as well as a recent press release at http://www.ageofautism.com/2008/10/mccain-or-oba-1.html.

Campaign contributions for each candidate can be viewed on
http://www.opensecrets.org/ . According to the most recent report, Senator Obama has received $1,662,280 from the pharmaceutical industry and McCain has received $579,013.

Isn't it "interesting"... the difference between the candidates' views, & the difference between the campaign contributions received by each candidate from Big Pharma...

Never mind that many people have actually gotten the disease polio from the vaccine itself. But then why care about the facts when it will cost you money. It's only people's lives hanging in the balance, after all.

Joni Devotional for Today

Another timely Joni devotional for this "season"...

Fighting Fire with Fire

So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.                                                                   --II Timothy 2:22 ESV

Our culture is a pushover when it comes to letting passions prevail.  Especially Christians.  It's not at the banquet of the wicked where we stuff ourselves on evil deeds; we've become voyeurs, sampling what we've convinced ourselves is a safe, nibbling-at-an-arms-length distance from the table of the wicked.  It's not pagans who have a problem with the world, the flesh, and the devil; it's believers.

I'm included.  My spiritual battleground is not over a torrid love affair or the x-rated shelves in the video store.  My paralysis prevents me from reaching for common temptations.  My fight of faith is played out on the field of my thoughts.  What my body can't have, my mind will shift into overdrive to deliver.  But daydreams and fantasies only frustrate, bringing feelings of restlessness and dissatisfaction with the way things are.

The way you fight fire is with fire.  To combat powerful passions, you need something far more powerful in your arsenal.  In fact, the fire of enticing thoughts must be fought with the fire of the pleasures God offers.  If you try to fight lust with a bunch of threats and warnings alone, you're going to fail.  The fight of our faith against wrong thinking is the fight to stay satisfied with God.  The battle involves more than rejecting evil; it's pursuing God.  It all comes down to knowing Jesus better.  When faith has the upper hand in your heart, you are satisfied with Christ.  He's enough.  He is sufficient.  This is what Jesus means when he says, "He who believes in me shall never thirst."

 *********

If you satisfy your thirst for joy and passion by the presence and the promises of Christ, then the power of sin in your life is broken.  That's real passion.

"Draw me deeper, Lord, into your presence, and draw me higher into your great joy.  Let the star-bright radiance of your life within me chase away the shadows of lesser desires."

Halloween Is Not For His People

He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
Matthew 11:15

Halloween is not all fun & games. But that is what the father of lies would have, & does have, way too many people believing.

I did a post a couple of years ago discussing the background of Halloween & why, Biblically, it is not something His followers should participate in. You can find it here.

Don't be deceived; satan is real & so many are believing his lies, for the sake of fun.

They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Revelation 20:9-11

But we are not supposed to participate in what the world sees as "fun"... what's more, we're not supposed to want to participate...

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
1 John 2:15-17

The following are links explaining the origins of Halloween & why, Biblically, His followers should not participate.

Christians & The Worldly Practice of Dating

Dating is not for Christians; it's not Biblical, & it's not conducive to preparing one's heart for "till death do us part". Kelly at Generation Cedar is doing a series on the problems with dating for a Christian. There are several posts. It's very well thought out & well written; please stop by to read, ponder, & pray over this very important topic.

Otis' Grooming

Patty the Groomer stopped by again this week in her big van with the big picture of a doggie in a bathtub on it. I was thankful she called the night before because I had not written the date down, so therefore had no idea she was coming.

It was really nice to see her again. I thought it was funny how someone I had only met once before was like an old friend already. She's very friendly, & genuine, & she really likes Otis.

I also found out she is a believer as well, so I suppose Otis is getting ministered to a bit while he gets groomed :-).

Last time she spent about an hour just combing him out. This time she felt he could handle a full fledged bath (wish I could've been a fly on her van wall to see that happen).

I had him ready for her again. Since he is a cat, he has to go into his crate for the little walk to & from the van over in the driveway. He whined like crazy in the crate, & I really couldn't resist getting him at his worst on video... you can view it at my other blog here.

He looks awesome; even better than last time. I had never realized all that grayish fur he had on him was a second coat that needed to be completely brushed out. She got rid of most of it, & he's looking very sleak & almost all black now. She said by next time he should have all of it gone. Yes, he knows he looks good...

She even left him with some tuna treats...

He's checking it out...

He definitely likes it.

Maybe with the treats he won't mind his grooming days.

If only he was able to connect the two...

Storyman's New Entry

Storyman, being inspired by the political activity, has added a new entry on his blog. Apparently "Julys" is having elections too!

Sticky Post - Blog Changes

Sticky note - look below for new entries...

I've got a new main blog I'm setting up. I'm already posting new entries there now. All video entries are on the new blog now (the "video blog" was deleted). It will be all professionally redone in early November, so please pardon my appearance there in the meantime. All my current types of entries can be found there now. Comments are being moderated but anyone can comment, so please visit me there & leave me a note!

Also, this blog will stay for homeschooling & some other, probably light, uses, so I'll be double posting here for some things. It's also due for a reno, & that will happen sometime next month as well. Storyman is here, so I can't possibly leave entirely, & I like it here too!

Housebound Vote

If you're like me & can't get out much, you can still vote. Check your state, but mine allows absentee ballots for anyone, without having to give any reason. It will have to be sent in a bit earlier, so check into it now if that's your situation.
