God Is Good Every Day!
Oct. 20, 2008

So far today my two year old woke up late - throwing up, then scraped his knee bad enough to need a band aid, then cut his finger and chin on the scissors I had just asked my four year old to put away...twice, and just now had to be disciplined for biting his sister.  I was just going to put him in bed for his nap, but know I need to wait a bit for him to calm down so he will sleep ok.

Oh, also the bank called with bad information!!

Aaaargh!!!!

I am glad that not all days are of the same circumstances.  I feel in need of one of those really nice days where things go well, as the last two or more weeks have been full of unpleasant circumstances.

This past week at our women's wordshop bible study we discussed relationships and discipline (for yourself and for your children).  Several of the Proverbs quoted mentioned the fear of God.  At our table we talked alot about what the fear of God means.

I'd like to know what you think to have fear of God means.

Thanks!

In Search of Fabric....A Sewing Lesson

Today I am on the search for microfleece or flannel to use for the innner layer of diapers.  I will be showing Hannah how to cut and sew diapers for her brother to use.  Also a friend of mine had a baby recently and I think we'll make a couple of really small ones for her new son.

Hannah likes to sew so I think it's time to have a real lesson instead of sticking with 'just the basics' for now.  (She did a reallt good job mending her stuffed giraffe's ears.)  Also, this means that we can meet up with Grandma since I've talked her into going to the fabric store with me.

I need to stop by the library while I'm out today and see if the movie I placed a hold on has arrived.  I've reserved "Frontier House" which is a PBS documentary of what life was like in the late 1800s.  I had originally wanted the move "1900 House" which is also a PBS documentary but focuses on one 1999 family that was chosen to live in a restored house from the year 1900 and they had to wear period clothing and live as if it was 1900 not 1999.  The movie deals with the difficulties of the change and how they had to get their own hot water, raise chickens in their backyard, etc.  I want Hannah to see how different life was and how this family had to adjust.  However I'm something like #17 on the wait list for this one.  Arrgh!

Reading went a little better yesterday.  I think we got more done, but she didn't have fun doing it.  I think today we'll read some more in Little Town on The Prairie.  While I'm at the library I'm going to look for the books that Ruth suggested in her comment.  thanks Ruth!

Teaching My Daughter How To Read

Okay, so I decided this year to homeschool.  My oldest daughter is 6.5 and in first grade.  Kindergarten didn't go so well - due to some health and endurance issues (she's making much progress here, though.)  She basically knows HOW to read, its just that she hates it.  That, and it's difficult and takes time for her.  (Give her a math problem though and she's right at home!)

So....we work with phonics computer programs which she seems to enjoy; we work with flash cards to get familiar with words she already can read so that she reads them faster; and we try to read sentences (perhaps a page).  (This last part has not gone well yet!)  It's just that she can't stand to do these things and I know that she needs to enjoy reading.  I really could use some suggestions.  If she does do well, then she's quite happy about it.  (For instance when she reads a word that she is convinced she doesn't know and then recognizes the word.)

So now our days are filled with reading or spelling worksheets (not drills, just to have a variation on some reading exercises) or flashcards/wordlists.  I'd welcome any other more fun ideas!

A Little About Me

I am new to blogging and this is my first blog.  I began reading about Noah on "ourquiverfull" and was deeply moved.  I never fully understood the purpose of blogging until now.  I am learning that relationships are of the utmost importance and that there are many ways to find friends.  (There's a really long story behind that.

Today I am 20 weeks (4.5 months) pregnant.  I've been married for 12 1/2 years.  This is my 6th pregnancy and we have 3 children (plus #4 due in Feb 2009.)  I've had 2 unsuccesfull pregnancies, both ending in the first trimester.  This is a very healthy preganancy, and-I know this will be difficult to believe-I have more energy today than I have had any day of my life previously.  This is moslty due to finally sorting out some very vague and undiagnosible health issues (more later) and finding peace with the past - which used to loom soooo large in my present days.

Today I know that the past does not define me and that God so loved us.  He has shown me that He is willing to fight for me and to win my heart.  One of the best truths I've ever learned is that God is good everyday.  He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.  He loves us and fights for our hearts.  He has compassion and humor and strength.  His love for us is so much more than our best ability to love.

Okay - my two year old is awake from his nap and crying - so this will be short.
