Prologue

The sky was filled with the crackling of thunder and the bright beams of lights flickering throughout the mysterious evening sky. Rain drops fell from the heavens in a rapid speed and they did not seem to want to cease their pace.

Safe and warm was a young maiden by the name of Maggie Libyal, she was tall and somewhat slender, her long black curls were pinned up in a bun and her mossy green eyes completed her complexion. She sat at a table in the town’s tavern. Many people may have stopped and gazed upon the sight of her sitting alone in a tavern. Completely sober and deep in thought. But no one did. A tiny black ink bottle sat on the table, along with many scattered papers and a pen that seemed to have been grasped with such fierce fingers. Now her elbows were propped up on the table and her face was tired from looking at the sheets she had been composing.

“Ah lassie, ye have been splotching ink on me waxed table again,” an older man said, in a gruff, yet kind voice. His grayish blue eyes twinkled as Maggie looked at him and gave a faint smile.

“I’ll wax them for you if you’d like me to Ziro,” she offered, he laughed and shook his head

“Nah lassie, I’ll get one of me workers to do it,” he sat himself across from her and began to gaze upon the papers she had scattered about the table.

 “What is ye writing, lassie?” he asked, Maggie frowned and then began to gather them into a pile.

 “Nothing of great importance, just some documents that Joash needed me to re-write for him, he is always jotting things down so fast that he has such a hard time putting them into document form” she stopped talking when she saw her brother Joash burst into the tavern, his long brown hair was drenched with  the rain. His hazel eyes were stuck with fear and hurt. Maggie was confused. Her brother, though he be a scholar, was a brave man who seemed to never show fear.

“Joash?” she said slowly, Ziro eyed her brother and knew that something was terribly wrong.

“Maggie, mum and dad have been…” he paused for a moment and chocked on his spit, “Captured by the dark knights of Dohoiada”
