Learning Languages, Creating Names

I just love listening to children learn language.  It amazes me how quickly they add new words to their vocabulary, even if they don't always use them correctly.  My youngest is 3 and he has tickled me a time or two with his choice of words.  One evening we were working in the garage and he made reference to needing to put something on the bladder???? That's right...the bladder,  I asked him again to make sure.  He pointed to the ladder and showed me right where the bladder was!!!  So the next time you need to climb up high -make sure you empty your bladder first or make sure everyone below has an umbrella LOL.
The same child has named several of his army men and stuffed animals.  This all first started with his boy baby doll that sleeps next to him in bed.  He informed me one morning that this same doll that was nameless for months now had been named Sausage!  I thought that was very creative. He did get very upset and I think I saw tears when his daddy told him he liked to eat sausage.  Now when anyone mentions eating sausage he makes sure to specify "the other kind of sausage - the kind you eat!" Next came an army man named Enchila and then was my favorite..... the army man named Adam D'neve. Most recently it has been E-I-Joe.   I just love it!
All of my children have had this creativity when it comes to language. Many children struggle with the 'th sound early on, but not my daughter.  She renamed several of the numbers and said them like so:  One, two, three, thour, thive, six, sethen, eight, nine ten!  I told you they are all creative.  Just yesterday even my oldest created a new word.  He was eating a cake we had all baked together with homemade icing.  Well, the icing was noone's favorite! Up side to that is that for once they realized they actually liked the cake part *grin*  Anyway, back to the story..... my oldest said "this icing tastes eeeeish."  I asked "what does eeeish taste like?" "I don't know," was his reply, " Sometimes I just like to make up new words, and this icing tastes eeeish!"  He did say "it's pretty good.... for homemade." So maybe eeeish isn't totally disgusting anyway *big grin*.
    I cherish these moments!

About Me

Welcome, I'm Fru Astrida. I hear you asking now, "Why Fru Astrida?" Well, just let me tell you. With my oldest I am reading The Little Duke, a story about Richard the Fearless. It was common practice then for "young princes to be put under the care of some trusty vassal, instead of being brought up at home." Fru Astrida and her family were chosen because they could speak the Old Norweigan tounge which many had forgotten. In church one Sunday I realized that like Fru Astrida I too have been charged with bringing up 3 of THE KING's children! Wow what a responsibility! I feel so blessed to be able to raise these 3 precious ones. So that is why I am Fru Astrida and this blog is titled what it is. This blog will hopefully serve to document some of the invaluable memories we are creating, keep family members connected to our lives, and just clear my mind of some of the mindless clutter that can often collect there. <big grin>
