Raising King's Kids

Dec. 14, 2006

Our week...or so.

I've spent so much time trying to get that audio link to work on my blog that I have neglected to blog all our holiday activities.  Let's see....

We went to the homeschool Christmas party and had a great time, made several crafts, ate pizza, played games and just had fun.

We have also started participating in a weekly swim club for homeschoolers.  My oldest son likes it, although he is hesitant about the stretching part before swimming (he's just a little shy).  He is working on his stroke and doing a good job of it.  At the end of the practice all the kids are divided into teams and they have a relay race!  The kids cheer for one another and are very encouraging.  My son is the newest member and hasn't been swimming as long as some of these kids -so he isn't as fast.  For the first relay they had to swim the length of the pool and back with a noodle!  DS- 7 (Dear Son-age 7) had a few kids come out to help him on the way back - they pulled on his noodle to help him go a little faster.  He was a bit discouraged that he was slower than the others - but I was so proud that he could swim the length of the pool on his own - I have a hard time with that!  The younger 2 enjoy the time too because they can swim and play in the shallow area while practice is going on.  DD (Dear Daughter) discovered that she could swim underwater with 1 hand (the other was plugging her nose)!  Then she found out she could do it with 2 hands and blow bubbles out her nose. She was very proud of that.  DS-3 (Dear Son - age 3)  just has a good time - he can reach all over in the baby pool so he thinks he is a big boy - even if his head barely reaches above water at the deep side :0)  He is growing up too quickly.  He weighs the same as he sister!
Let's see... what else have we done???  We had our adult cantata dress rehearsal Fri. night and cantata Sat. and Sun.  - so that meant 3 late nights in a row.  Then Mon. we had a Christmas dinner at Olive Garden!  And tonight we have another Christmas dinner to go to!  Tis the season..... to gain weight!
Speaking of gaining weight ,  we've also baked!  We made white chocolate covered peanut butter crackers, snow crunch, spritz cookies (dd picked those and had lots of fun using the cookie gun!).
Yesterday was homeschool Science Center classes - and then I took the kids to do their Christmas shopping for each other.  It was hard trying to keep them from seeing what they were getting each other! They wrapped them and put them under the tree.   Now I just have to get my shopping finished- oh how I abhor those crowded stores!
Anyway, you get the picture- it's been a little busy - but we are having fun and enjoying our Christmas break.   Tues. ds-7 remembered it was Christmas break and decided to sleep in and wear his P.J.'s all day long!!!  What fun!  Hope your enjoying the holiday season too.  Merry Christmas!

About Me

Welcome, I'm Fru Astrida. I hear you asking now, "Why Fru Astrida?" Well, just let me tell you. With my oldest I am reading The Little Duke, a story about Richard the Fearless. It was common practice then for "young princes to be put under the care of some trusty vassal, instead of being brought up at home." Fru Astrida and her family were chosen because they could speak the Old Norweigan tounge which many had forgotten. In church one Sunday I realized that like Fru Astrida I too have been charged with bringing up 3 of THE KING's children! Wow what a responsibility! I feel so blessed to be able to raise these 3 precious ones. So that is why I am Fru Astrida and this blog is titled what it is. This blog will hopefully serve to document some of the invaluable memories we are creating, keep family members connected to our lives, and just clear my mind of some of the mindless clutter that can often collect there. <big grin>
