More Kid's Say The Cutest Things

Well, we are having some winter weather here so outside isn't a nice option right now.  Because of this I am allowing the kids to watch a movie for free time which gives me some time to update this blog.  I just love telling about the cute things my kids have said.  It makes me smile and I hope it does you too.
Not too long ago we were all sitting around the table reviewing our Spanish lessons when my dear 3 year old son says rather dramatically "How long will we do Spanish?"  I told him that we were going to learn lots and lots of Spanish so one day we would be able to speak in Spanish and English.  My other 2 children were listening and my dear daughter quickly chimed in "yeah, and then we will be diagonal!"  I thought it was rather cute the way she was trying to use such a large vocabulary word and so I praised her and corrected her at the same time "Yes, that's right then we will be Bi-lingual!"  She had the idea right she just couldn't remember that word .   I'm not so sure my 3 year old has this idea of English and Spanish down pat yet.  He can say several colors and animals in Spanish but I just don't think he understands the concept of different languages.  My reason for suspecting this is because of a conversation he had with me once.  He likes to make up stories that sound real, but that I know aren't.  If you heard them you may think we really did these thing or had a particular adventure together as a family when most likely we didn't!  He was telling me one of these tall tales of what he had done and who he had talked to etc...  when I asked him "Oh, really!  What did so and so say?"  (I can't remember who he was making up this story on this time)  He declared rather emphatically "I don't know he was talkin' English!"  LOL

He had me laughing so hard one night at bedtime.  We have this Ernie Doll that plays a guitar and sings when you push a button.  He sings Splish, Splash, I Was Taking a Bath - we all know this song and take for granted that the words are understandable to all - Wrong!   My 3 year old pushes the button and when the song finishes he just laughs and says "did  you hear what he said?"  " Yeah, he was singing Splish, Splash."   "He said he peed on the floor!"  "No, he didn't what are you talking about?"  Push the button and listen to song again "Splish, Splash I was taking a bath all about a Saturday night, Rub a Dub just relaxing in the tub thinking everything was all right ...  Then I stepped out of the tub, put my feet  on the floor - " Son says "See Mommy he said he Peed on the floor!"  I just laughed and laughed when I realized what he thought Ernie was singing.  I called my husband in to tell him and the whole family laughed together.  The song really does make you laugh more if you sing it that way!  Now we all laugh and sing "I stepped out of the tub and I peed on the floor, wrapped my towel around me and  I opened up the door!"   These are what memories are made of!

Language is a tricky thing to learn - but we are enjoying, learning, laughing,  and growing....even if we are all growing diagonally!

About Me

Welcome, I'm Fru Astrida. I hear you asking now, "Why Fru Astrida?" Well, just let me tell you. With my oldest I am reading The Little Duke, a story about Richard the Fearless. It was common practice then for "young princes to be put under the care of some trusty vassal, instead of being brought up at home." Fru Astrida and her family were chosen because they could speak the Old Norweigan tounge which many had forgotten. In church one Sunday I realized that like Fru Astrida I too have been charged with bringing up 3 of THE KING's children! Wow what a responsibility! I feel so blessed to be able to raise these 3 precious ones. So that is why I am Fru Astrida and this blog is titled what it is. This blog will hopefully serve to document some of the invaluable memories we are creating, keep family members connected to our lives, and just clear my mind of some of the mindless clutter that can often collect there. <big grin>
