Dinosaur in My God Box!

Have you ever heard the song that goes like this :  If I had a little white box to put my Jesus in, I'd take him out and hug him tight and share him with a friend.  And if I had a little black box to put the devil in, I'd take him out and STOMP HIS FACE and put him right back in.

If He's Got the Whole World in His Hands How can we put Him in a box?

Someone taught this song to my children awhile back and they sang it for quite awhile after that.  Except they had one very important part of the song wrong.  Instead of sharing Jesus with a friend they sang put him right back in!   I corrected them and told them we wanted to share Jesus not put him in a box.  But isn't that what we do so many times?  We put him in a box, limit him, confine him, and only open the box when it is convenient for us.  Tonight my pastor reminded us in service that we shouldn't put God in a box.  He said that he doesn't want a God that he can fully understand or explain - because then he wouldn't be much of a God if our little brains could fully understand him!  I have to agree entirely with him.  I don't always understand God's ways  - "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord." Isaiah 55:8  I am glad that my God doesn't have my ways!  My ways are human ways, fleshly ways, wicked, and selfish ways.  I have to die to my ways daily - and live His Way!  That is not easy - but I have a God who is bigger than me, bigger than my problems, bigger than any box..... and yes, bigger than my understanding..... MUCH BIGGER!

Anyway, back to the song my kids had learned.  Well, my youngest son (3)  woke up one night and came in to my bed crying that he had had a bad dream.   I put him in our bed  and let him fall asleep there, where he felt safe.  That was during hubby's surgery week.......and I got up soon after falling back asleep with our dear son to tend to hubby.  I realized that our darling 3 year old had to go back to his room now - there just wasn't enough space on my small piece of the bed to be sharing with a 3 year old!!! So, I took him back to his room and laid him in his bed.  He stirred a little, looked at me and said "There's a dinosaur in my Jesus box!"   Oh how funny that sounded to me - a dionsaur in his Jesus box!    I assured my son that Jesus is not a dinosaur!  He fell back asleep after I laid down with him for awhile.  Not sure if there is any lesson to be learned there or not.....other than to be careful the impression we give or children of our God!  He certainly cannot be contained in a box!  Lots of things come in boxes, or can be  placed in boxes...But NOT JESUS!  Probably shouldn't sing that song anymore  huh?    I think I'll have to teach them the song  My God is So Big So Strong and So Mighty, There's Nothing My God Cannot Do!  That may give a more realistic impression of this Awesome, Magnificent , Almighty, All powerful, All knowing, Ever present, God we serve!

About Me

Welcome, I'm Fru Astrida. I hear you asking now, "Why Fru Astrida?" Well, just let me tell you. With my oldest I am reading The Little Duke, a story about Richard the Fearless. It was common practice then for "young princes to be put under the care of some trusty vassal, instead of being brought up at home." Fru Astrida and her family were chosen because they could speak the Old Norweigan tounge which many had forgotten. In church one Sunday I realized that like Fru Astrida I too have been charged with bringing up 3 of THE KING's children! Wow what a responsibility! I feel so blessed to be able to raise these 3 precious ones. So that is why I am Fru Astrida and this blog is titled what it is. This blog will hopefully serve to document some of the invaluable memories we are creating, keep family members connected to our lives, and just clear my mind of some of the mindless clutter that can often collect there. <big grin>
