Raising King's Kids

A Birthday Week

Well our dear daughter is now 6!!!  Her birthday was actually the day before Easter but it seems we have been celebrating all week.  Her 8 year old brother woke up early on Sat. to fix her favorite breakfast  (livermush) and "decorate" for her special day.  He made her a poster, and set the table with the crystal dishes.  I made livermush, biscuits, peeled some tangerines and we ate our boiled Easter eggs.  He also made her a special strawberry shortcake with a candle and helped Daddy make a special birthday slide show on the computer. Her youngest brother escorted her into the dining  room for her breakfast experience.  We didn't have cake until Easter day when all the family was eating lunch together at my Aunt's house.  Then on Tuesday night she had 2 of her friends stay the night and all day Wed. with her.  We had so much cake left that I took it to her Mission Friend's class on Wed. night and she celebrated again with her friends at church.  So, we really have been celebrating for almost a week!

We had a very cold Easter. We actually had just a little bit of snow on the ground on Good Friday. Here's a picture of some of it on the kid's slide.  Daddy took ds (dear son)8 with him to sunrise service. It was a record cold at 21 degrees!!!  The rest of us joined him at our regular church times afterwards.  The service was wonderful - such a great celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ!  The kids hunted eggs with money in them at my Aunt's house - they were very motivated to find those eggs LOL!

Today the kids swam and then went to play over at my Aunt's house.  They love it over there and so does Duffy!  I guess you're caught up now.  I hope to get a picture of the canopy Granny made for our daughter's birthday up soon - it is beautiful!

Oh yeah I need your help.  I've got to come up with a better way to refer to my family members on this blog.  Something in keeping with the title of the blog would be good (Raising King's Kids) - but I have a good friend who already uses Prince, and Princess for her children.  I was thinking Little Duke 1 and 2 and I guess Little Duchess?  Not decided though - any creative suggestions are welcomed.  Thanks!

About Me

Welcome, I'm Fru Astrida. I hear you asking now, "Why Fru Astrida?" Well, just let me tell you. With my oldest I am reading The Little Duke, a story about Richard the Fearless. It was common practice then for "young princes to be put under the care of some trusty vassal, instead of being brought up at home." Fru Astrida and her family were chosen because they could speak the Old Norweigan tounge which many had forgotten. In church one Sunday I realized that like Fru Astrida I too have been charged with bringing up 3 of THE KING's children! Wow what a responsibility! I feel so blessed to be able to raise these 3 precious ones. So that is why I am Fru Astrida and this blog is titled what it is. This blog will hopefully serve to document some of the invaluable memories we are creating, keep family members connected to our lives, and just clear my mind of some of the mindless clutter that can often collect there. <big grin>
