Weed-Eaters

Well we have found new motivation for getting our children to help pull weeds.

Meet Hogan
and Blue
our new weed eaters!!!

The kids got rather tired of pulling weeds until they came up with the idea of feeding a salad to the horses.  It was a race to see if they could keep them supplied with weeds before they cleaned their plate.  The kids would run to the driveway and pull a sand bucket full of weeds, and then run to feed them to the horses.  We all had fun - especially watching the horses enjoy the sweet clover we pulled them - and sling the too large mouth fulls around to make them smaller.

Hogan and Duffy (our dog) aren't exactly friends!  As a matter of fact, Hogan and Blue don't always get along either. Come to think of it he chases Papaw's dog Lance too.  He has a bit of an " I own the world attitude."   Hogan just wants to play - but he's too big.    At least that is what I thought... until I saw Hogan run Duffy down one evening when he was in the horse pen with me.  Despite all my yelling, stomping, clapping etc. at both the dog and the horse, Hogan chased him right out the gate.  I don't think Duffy got stomped, but he did yelp!  I think it was a desperate cry for help when he thought he was cornered.  But he got out and never showed any signs of limping or being hurt.   Now he likes to taunt Hogan though...... from the opposite side of the fence of course!  He doesn't follow me in to feed anymore!  Duffy will run toward the fence at Hogan full speed. When he gets to the fence he will bark very ferociously , make a circle and charge at the fence again.  It's as if he's saying "You don't wanna take me on, I'll tear you to shreds, it's a good thing this fence is saving  you or else you'd be in for it!!!"   I'm sure Hogan is thinking something along the same lines as he just stares at Duffy, shakes his mane, stomps at a fly,  and laughs to himself.   I believe this all started from the time Duffy peed on Hogan's nose through the fence - It's been war since then!
Here is a picture of Duffy staring at the horses daring them to come out of that fence!

About Me

Welcome, I'm Fru Astrida. I hear you asking now, "Why Fru Astrida?" Well, just let me tell you. With my oldest I am reading The Little Duke, a story about Richard the Fearless. It was common practice then for "young princes to be put under the care of some trusty vassal, instead of being brought up at home." Fru Astrida and her family were chosen because they could speak the Old Norweigan tounge which many had forgotten. In church one Sunday I realized that like Fru Astrida I too have been charged with bringing up 3 of THE KING's children! Wow what a responsibility! I feel so blessed to be able to raise these 3 precious ones. So that is why I am Fru Astrida and this blog is titled what it is. This blog will hopefully serve to document some of the invaluable memories we are creating, keep family members connected to our lives, and just clear my mind of some of the mindless clutter that can often collect there. <big grin>
