Soggy Chips!

Here's a little story from one of our camp trips this summer.

We took the youth band with us- 4 youth boys – you can imagine!!!  Well, youth.. and my husband for that matter, are forever trying to pull pranks, and generally get reactions out of people.   One evening we stopped at a grocery store before checking into the room.  We just wanted some drinks etc..  I had already decided I’d stay in the car with Duffy and any others that didn’t want to go in.  But the youth boys had a better... Or should I say another idea!  They wanted to try to take Duffy into the store as a seeing eye dog!  The plan was that one of the boys would wear sunglasses, pretend to be blind, and be led by Duffy around the grocery store....  There is just one small problem – DUFFY LOOKS NOTHING LIKE A SEEING EYE DOG...  and youth aren’t always the best actors :=)  How they managed to get Duffy to be in the front and lead is something I’m still not certain about because for the most part Duffy likes to stay right at my heels – and I know that would have never passed as a dog leading a blind boy from behind???  Well, the boys actually managed to control their laughter enough to make it into the grocery store with the dog.  Mind you Duffy to my knowledge has never experienced all the wonderful smells of a grocery store so I’m sure he was rather excited about this new experience.   Believe it or not no one stopped them at the front of the store to make them go back out.  From the car I fully expect them to return as quickly as they enter.... But I waited, and waited, and no sign of them.  So, they pulled it off... Until all of the sudden ...wait... What’s that I see coming out of the store?  2 youth carrying a dog, walking calmly, no briskly, no wait... Now they’re running to the van laughing uncontrollably!  As the laughter subsides the story begins to unfold.  Apparently the young man playing the blind person really left his eyes closed the entire time so that he’d be believable.  The majority of the group walked off from the 2 actors with Duffy ... Probably out of embarrassment!  So that left the blind, led by the dog, with his arm outstretched and placed on his friend’s shoulder. Well, at some point the blind was left alone with the dog (with eyes closed) and calling out to his friends “Guys, guys, where are you?”  At this point Duffy decides to lift his leg and leave his mark on a potato chip display!  The seeing youth turns around to see what is taking place  - he calmly walks over to his “blind” friend, says quietly “Ok, I’m going to pick up Duffy now, and we’re going to go back out to the van!”  That’s when I saw them leaving the store – and then sprinting to the safety of the van.  I’m just glad they never made it to the meat counter!!!!!!

About Me

Welcome, I'm Fru Astrida. I hear you asking now, "Why Fru Astrida?" Well, just let me tell you. With my oldest I am reading The Little Duke, a story about Richard the Fearless. It was common practice then for "young princes to be put under the care of some trusty vassal, instead of being brought up at home." Fru Astrida and her family were chosen because they could speak the Old Norweigan tounge which many had forgotten. In church one Sunday I realized that like Fru Astrida I too have been charged with bringing up 3 of THE KING's children! Wow what a responsibility! I feel so blessed to be able to raise these 3 precious ones. So that is why I am Fru Astrida and this blog is titled what it is. This blog will hopefully serve to document some of the invaluable memories we are creating, keep family members connected to our lives, and just clear my mind of some of the mindless clutter that can often collect there. <big grin>
