Flowers, flowers, flowers! Oh, and a teacup or two.

Gardens

A friend recently wrote a beautiful blog post about me and my love of gardening. She has this wonderful gift for writing--a gift that I have always admired. I, of course, commented, but my comment seemed flat and almost greeting cardesque. I often chastise myself for what I am not, but I as a gardener would never be upset that my hollyhocks didn't look or act like sweet peas. I would never expect my foxglove to creep along the ground. I appreciate these individual flowers for what they are. I love the texture of the petals and the powder of the pollen. Do you know how different all the stamens are? I wonder if this is how God feels about us? He made us each so unique and with such wonderful gifts. Each of us has our own shade of color, texture of petal, and pleasing aroma. What a beautiful garden our Master Gardener has created!

Nice to finish a project

We finished our lap books for The Bee Tree. I'm now looking of ideas for The Mitten by Jan Brett. It's very cold and wintery here and I think it will be the perfect next book:)

This and That

Need To Blog More Often!!!! :) Noah and Jaime are working on the book The Bee Tree by Patricia Polacco. I love Patricia Polacco books, but was not familiar with this one. What a gem! We will be making a lap book. I took the kids to the apple orchard where they have a bee hive indoors so that they could observe the bees. We also bought some honey candy and examined some honeycomb. Gotta love homeschooling! Amy's working on a paper about cloning. We are also in the process of adopting again:) Stay tuned.

My first poppy

What a beautiful Memorial Day it is today! I awoke to see my first poppy burst open in glorious bloom. I have been trying to grow poppies for about five years and this is my first one! To let you know how hard this seems to be for me, my friend's mom gave me about five plants last summer and two plants this spring. Only one survived! I think the poppy opening today is very appropo because it makes me think of this poem:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead.

Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

Catalog Time!

It's my favorite time of year! Catalog time! I love checking the mail everyday and finding these new-little-books-of-hope. LOL Just look what my homeschool could become next year! I was one of those kids that loved the back-to-school spoils--brand new notebooks, unsharpened pencils, and bright, new crayons-each holding the promise of fountains of creativity. Maybe this will be the year that my homeschool "sparkles". Probably not, but it's still fun to dream.

Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day and, in celebration, I am starting a blog! I successfully made it through the "sign-up" process. Such pressure in creating an account. Do I want to be witty? Intellectual? Serious? How do I combine all-about-me into a title and a description? Oh well, it is now done! Have a Happy Mother's Day everyone!
