Susan Wise Bauer & Feminism
Posted in Hebrew Educational Model
|
I received quite a bit of heat on and off blog for my recent comments about Susan Wise Bauer. The comments I made about her humanism, feminism and relativism were conclusions our family had come to after reading her various writings. Come to do a little research and I found that she is actually a self-professed feminist, though she would prefer to call herself an "egalitarian". Gotta love how we have "politically correct" terms for everything. I'm not a feminist, I'm egalitarian. I'm not a sodomite, I'm a homosexual. I'm not an adulterer, I had an affair.
The information can be found on her blog here. The actual egalitarian confession is found in the comments section. It's long and tedious reading. For a nice summary I recommend reading the article posted by "The Biblical Council on Manhood and Womanhood" which can be found here.

I hope you weigh and consider every single word you say, write and think- but you'd have to wouldn't you? To sit in judgment of others, it must be very difficult to maintain.

Yes I do weigh every word. And yes it is difficult. But, God tells us to judge.
In I Corinthians 6, Paul rebukes the Corinthians for their inability to judge. He tells them that the saints will not only judge the world, but the angels. He asks if there isn't just one wise man who is able to judge.
How will we possibly judge the angels if we can't make judgements in this life?
"Or know ye not that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world is judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more, things that pertain to this life? If then ye have to judge things pertaining to this life, do ye set them to judge who are of no account in the church? I say this to move you to shame. What cannot there be found amount you one wise man who shall be able to decide between his brethren?"
And just in case you are wondering, I am prepared to be judged by the same standard (Mt. 7). Absolutely!

I thought we as Christians are to first go privately to the person we intend to judge. Then if need be we must get two or three witness to hear the situation and allow them to judge. Then if need be we must take it to the church and let the church judge.
Perhaps I'm mistaken or oversimplifying.

Judging is important to do when it comes to teachings and doctrines. How else can we discern what we teach our children? I

Why would declaring the equality of women be a confession? Why would I want to visit a biased site to read what men interpreted a woman saying rather than read the woman's own words?

You can't compare "egalitarian/feminist" with sins like adultery and homosexuality. Egalitarians are not the same thing as so-called feminists anyway. Egalitarianism, really, comes from Biblical principles. Though the deception of so-called complementarianism has pervaded the church for most of its history, there have always been those who accepted Galatians 3:28 as meaning just what it says. From the Modalists of the early church, to the medieval Waldenses, to the Quakers of the Reformation period through today, there have been those all the way down the corridors of time who have believed in the equal standing of men and women in Christ, as heirs of the promised inheritance which has been bestowed upon us by the love of God and the precious blood of our Saviour. We are not under the curse of the law, but under the blessing of the Father.
