Birthday and Fourth of July Pictures

Posted in Family

Here are a few pictures from McFarden's birthday and the bicycle parade. Most of the pictures of the kids turned out cloudy. I can't figure out why... humidity?

Here is McFarden and Genius with the birthday cake.

Happy Birthday

Posted in Family

Twelve years ago today you came into our family. Two weeks late, but it was worth it. Your Dad and I have enjoyed every minute of your life! We love your sweet spirit, your kind heart, your sense of humor, your helpfulness, your cheerful attitude but we are most thankful that you love Jesus with all your heart. You are a beautiful young lady and we are honored to be your parents. You are truly your mom's right hand girl! We couldn't get along without you. The only thing that could make this day better is if Daddy was here to share it with us. Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

Love,

Mom and Dad

The Bird- part 2, mystery solved????

Posted in Family

I returned from the store today to find all my kids once again standing at the back door. On the back porch was another bird.... except this one hadn't quite reached the dead stage yet. After about 5 minutes, the poor thing finally died and my oldest daughter disposed of it for us. This is the 3rd bird that has died in our little housing area in the past week, not including the one that flew into our window. A while later my oldest son comes running from the back of the house screaming that his tadpoles were dead. Sure enough, his tadpoles had been attacked by something, because they were missing parts and all dead. My daughter's friend then mentioned that she thought tadpoles were poisonous if you ate them. So.... did the dead bird on our porch eat the tadpoles and then die? Did the other dead birds eat our tadpoles and die? And does this explain the dead mouse that our neighbor found on their porch? And why would birds be eating tadpoles when we all have fully stocked bird feeders in our backyards? The mystery continues.....

Busy

Posted in Family

It is late and I don't have much time to update before I go to bed. It has been raining here for 5 days in a row. The ground is so wet that your feet sink into it when you walk! The kids had a great time playing in the puddles this afternoon after they had an indoor campout, complete with a construction paper fire pit and marshmallows roasted on pencils. I'll try to post pictures tomorrow. McFarden is loving her Apologia science and T-man is getting the hang of his new math book. A.C. finished his first lesson in LLATL and Jumping Jack did most of the lesson with him. P Lizzy had a fun time dressing up with Lily during dinner tonight. We grilled hamburgers and hotdogs but then the grill ran out of propane so we finished it on the stove. It stopped raining just long enough for T-man to replenish the bird feeder and for McFarden to stake the other tomato plant. Mel says she has 21 plants in her garden so she will share some with us when it comes time to can. Emma is spending the night tomorrow to help with the kids for bible study. McFarden has decided on Thompson's for dinner on her birthday. I am sure it will be fun. Hopefully tomorrow I will have time to post some more pictures. But for now I am off to bed....

The Journal or The Journey!

Posted in Family

June 19th-

Everything went well. A.C. wouldn't go with his group for VBS so he spent the night with Alan. Tonight he is going to participate :).

June 20th-

3 little kids are sick. I called PCC and got in with their PA. He is as slow as molasses, but pretty thorough. L has some sort of something going on in the ear canal. His tonsil is also huge. He gave him drops for his ear, he hates the drops, but they aren't supposed to hurt. he PA said that his ear canal is so swollen that he can't see the drum, so if he gets worse to bring him back.

P has an ear infection, amoxicillin

F also an ear infection. She goes back on July 7th to be seen by the pediatrician

We went to Korner shop for lunch while we waited for the scripts things went swimmingly until the last 2 minutes and then all heck broke loose. P is pretty cranky and not feeling good so she started screaming, woke up F, who started screaming and then L and T got into it. Made it out alive, but just barely!

A.C. received discipline when we came home for not listening to A.M. at the Dr.'s office.

As I told you earlier L. is now getting a script. P and F went to bed right at 8pm so I need to get to bed soon.

June 21st-

Okay like our life is ever normal... 1am the phone rings, I groggily (sp) think, oh it's David, but surely he realizes that it's 1 in the morning and I am trying to get as much sleep as possible with 3 sick kids... so anyway, I let it go. 2 minutes later the phone rings again, now I am thinking oh no... something must be wrong, so... I roll over and grab the phone, check the caller id and recognize the name but can't place it... a million thoughts are now running through my head, they are calling to tell me the bad news... etc.. but then realize that they don't call they come to the door, anyway, I answer and it is..... the PA from PCC. Yep, that's right he is calling me at 1 am to check on L. I think to myself, this is a joke, I am on some tv show that I don't know about right... wrong, then he tells me that he overdosed F on the amox! Yes, you are right I am having a bad dream, but no I am awake! So then he asks how many doses I have given her, can I remember NO it is ONE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING! I am still trying to remember where I am! So he talks to me for like 10 minutes, tells me what to give her (a new dose amt) as if I am totally coherent at this point! I hang up and think, this will be funny in about 15 hours but not at the moment. Then as if on cue L comes in crying, ear pain, etc... I give him some vitamin M and let him sleep with me. I hen lay awake for about another hour, worrying about F and wondering if I should google amox od... I decide not to because I am sure there will be some wacko web page dedicated to all the kids who have died from amox. I finally fall asleep after checking on F about 5 times. The PA then calls me back at about 9am to make sure I was giving F the new amt.

Alex showed up a little before P's naptime. I went to town and went to Michaels, Ross, Target, Wal-Mart, Costco, Gas and Panera...

Got home around in the middle of naptime, got the car unloaded and L woke up, again, crying in ear pain. He got 2 doses of meds before bed so hopefully he will be better tomorrow. Kept him home from VBS and he and P had a great time playing together. F was crying in the swing until P gave her this huge push and then she liked it, go figure.

June 22, 2006 - It's 6:20am; I have been up since 4:30 working at the pharmacy. It is a hard job, the pay stinks, but the rewards are great. L and P both needed some
vitamin M and then little F woke up and needed some vitamin E (Enfamil :). P
also had a cough but that might have been because I had the air on 68. That
comforter is hot. I think I will have to switch back to big red until
winter; the ac just blows right on P as she sleeps. I thought of rearranging
the bedroom so I could move her bed, but couldn't think of anywhere to put
it. I am hoping little miss F goes back to bed soon so I can get another
hour or so of sleep in... not that I am complaining, I am actually wide
awake, but know that I won't be in about 6 hours.

The boys are having some Nintendo time as I try to pull it all together, but we are going to start school soon!

Red Lobster

Posted in Family

Last night we went to Red Lobster for dinner. Now we don’t normally eat at Red Lobster, but we are currently stuck in Maryland, (more on that another time) and after 2 rainy days in a hotel room with 6 children we needed to get out.  When it was time to be seated the hostess actually said, “I’m sorry,” to my husband when we said we had 6 kids! Can you believe that, well actually, I am sure those of you with big families are probably not surprised at all! Anyway, I decided to post the email I sent to Red Lobster this morning regarding the whole event.

On another note, our waitress started the meal off pretty poorly. You could tell she wasn’t too happy about getting a table with six kids. But as the meal wore on, and the kids were behaving and she realized we weren’t so bad and became a bit friendlier. Anyway, here is the letter I just emailed them…

Last night our family of 8 decided to go to Red Lobster for dinner. Apparently there was a mix up when we requested a table, we needed a table for 2 adults and 6 children, and they thought we needed a table for 6 adults and 2 children. When it was our turn to be seated we went up to the hostess station and found out there was a mix up. When my husband explained to the hostess that we had 6 children, not 2 she responded with "I'm sorry." Now, she did not mean that she was sorry there was a mix up, but rather that she was sorry we had 6 children. My husband responded that he wasn't sorry, and the embarrassed hostess then stumbled over her words and said something about she wouldn't be sorry either if she had children as cute as ours, or something like that.

If I could make a suggestion to your company, it would be to train your employees a little better in customer relations. I do not want to eat a restaurant with my children that seems to have a problem with the size of my family, or feels the need to comment on it in a negative way. During our 45-minute wait for our table, the children looked at the lobster tank, checked out the menus and chatted with us and each other. They were not disruptive to any other patrons in your restaurant. Next time we choose to eat out, we will spend our money someplace that does not have such a problem with larger families. I do not want to explain to my young children why people feel sorry for us because they are in our family.

Sincerely,

T

Children... lots of them

Posted in Family
I was thinking the other day, about when I just had one child, I took her everywhere. She was an excellent baby, slept through the night before she was 2 months old, never cried, and was very obedient even as a toddler. I even took her to college classes with me and she just sat in her stroller and ate cheerios. Then I had baby number 2. For some reason I became paralyzed with fear at the thought of going anywhere with both of them by myself. Granted he was a very sick baby, and cried a lot, but still, I think I left the house once with the two of them in the first couple of months and that was only because I was out of diapers and didn’t have a choice. Several years went by and then along came babies 3, 4, 5, and now just recently #6. I can go anywhere now… what has changed? I am not sure, but it is funny to me how children change you. When I was pregnant with #6 I would get the typical jaw dropping reaction when I would explain to people that no, this was not my first baby, it was our 6th.

Then, you get the usual, how do you do it…. I could never… and on and on. Anyway, I really believe that after baby #2 things just got a lot easier. Sure the sleep deprivation is hard in the beginning, but after we have our routine going, things just don’t seem that much different around here. Just a little bit louder, slightly messier, and we are certainly happier with our newest little bundle. And now we are off to go on a business trip with Daddy for the rest of the week… something I would have never done when I just had 2!
