I Guess I'm a spin-off blog - Entertainment Issues

My wife has a blog (genesisfamily) and I've been posting responses for a while. I wanted to mirror my posting about entertainment options on my own blog because there seems to be some interest in this topic. I hope to continue to post here as my schedule allows. Here is my response to the question: To TV or Not TV:

Psalm 119:37
Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.

Psalm 37:31
The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip.

Friends, Let those verses marinate for a second. For me and my family, its not the acceptability of the movies, TV shows, music, or other entertainment that we bring in the home. Its whether these things edify, teach, or model Godly things. "Turn my eye from worthless things" - Finding Nemo may be acceptable in that it teaches no anti-biblical lessons or contains no themes contrary to Christian living (I'm not sure this is true) but is it worthwhile? Is it something worthless that I should ask God to turn my eyes (and those of my children) from? Kill Bill is unacceptable to many non-believers. It is unacceptable for my family because it is worthless. We are far from done with this issue. I have not led my family by biblical guidelines and have developed ungodly appetites. We will draw closer to God's word and hold everything up to the scrutiny of scripture. We will not live in tents and follow the Hebrew way of life but we will search the scripture for Biblical norms and live our lives according to them. I, as the family's spiritual leader, must reenergize this process. With God's grace our marriage to the world and it's values will be replaced completely with adherence to Biblical norms. This grounding in scripture will allow us to reach the world as ambassadors for Christ. We are not citizens here - Let us never forget our Sovereign's grace, love, and law.

These are choices we have made. Search the Word of God and see if they fit into your vision for your family,

In His Love,
